Review by Linda McDermott
Enigmatic UK dark rockers PEARL HANDLED REVOLVER are back with a new single ‘Space Invaders’ from their forthcoming album, Tales You Lose, which is due for release on Friday 18th April.
If you are new to PEARL HANDLED REVOLVER, then you’ve been missing out. During the past sixteen years, this band of brothers have crafted five self-produced studio albums, two live albums, and four EPs. Seamlessly managing to blend heavy rock, blues, and prog, with hints of jazz to their intoxicating sound, PEARL HANDLED REVOLVER have a unique wordless chemistry and songwriting mastery that is nothing short of exemplary.
The darkly rock crew have picked up widespread critical acclaim with Classic Rock Magazine, Fireworks, Powerplay Magazine, Rhythm, and Louder Than War prominently backing the band. The highly rated five piece have also played throughout the UK and Europe and have shared stages with everyone from The Black Crowes, Groundhogs, Focus, UB40, Stray, Hawkwind, Karl Palmer, Don Airey, and Blockheads, to Jethro Tull.
Lee Vernon: Lead Vocal / Harmonica
Simon Rinaldo: Organ / Electric Piano / Synthesizer
Lucas Rinaldo: Bass Guitar / Guitar
Andy Paris: Guitar, Backing Vocals
Chris Thatcher: Drums, Backing Vocals.
Right from the start, this hypnotic new track has a pulsing synth beat that sets the tone, locking the listener into a steady groove that remains constant throughout. It’s the glue that holds everything together, the reason your head starts nodding instinctively.
What stands out are the deep vocals, that are rich and commanding, they guide the song’s journey like a steady hand through a haze of psychedelic textures. The track doesn’t immediately reveal all its layers; it’s a grower, one that gathers momentum with each listen. Subtle flourishes emerge over time, great guitar licks, airy synth lines, and a moody atmosphere that feels both retro and forward-thinking.
With a clear psychedelic rock influence, ‘Space Invaders’ leans into a dreamy, immersive vibe and if this single is anything to go by, the upcoming album promises to be an expansive and atmospheric experience. For now, this track is enough to pull you in, leaving you eager to hear what else Pearl Handled Revolver has in store.
Expect a flurry of tantalising live performances and festival appearances throughout the year, as well as a hatful of new singles and content. Join the band’s official sites for updates and announcements.
