Samantha Fish is a Kansas City – bred New Orleans based singer / songwriter / musician who has been setting the blues / rock world on fire since 2009. Samantha originally started life behind the kit but switched to guitar aged 15, Samantha would regularly go to Knuckleheads Saloon to to hear the latest touring blues artists. Turning 18 she would join the singers & bands onstage to showcase her talents. Samantha has given us 6 studio albums & on the 25th April she unleashes her fiercest album to date Paper Doll and from that comes the blistering new single Sweet Southern Sounds which I will be reviewing for you today.
Sweet Southern Sounds – A nice cool guitar pick wanders through the intro as Hammond style keys make themselves known to us as Samantha lets her soulful vocals lead the way. The rhythm section comes through with a nice solid snarte drum beat that lets the tempo flow as the track builds and builds as we feel the dark brooding bassline hit us with real mellow tones that suit this arrangement perfectly, the track is a nice groover that combines soulful vocals with crisp, clean. rasping guitar licks that reaaly let her open up and just jam like she knows how to. The groove is a real heavy touch that lets Samantha cut loose and really express herself as the boys just wrap themselves around her and really let the track sing as she shreds away in the background to bring us a colossal guitar onslaught that brings sheer joy to the listener for sure and will have you reaching for the repeat button.
