Review by Linda McDermott
Kairvina is an alternative singer/songwriter born and raised in India. Her passion for music found her at a very young age, with evenings spent singing and writing songs about middle school relationships, devastating heartbreaks, and brooding soul-searching anthems. It was only a matter of time before that creative energy led her to self-learn guitar and share that angsty spirit.
Taking a leap of faith, Kairvina moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18. Immersing herself in her art, she formed a band, played countless gigs, and developed a conversational way of telling the stories. Inspired by Jeff Buckley, Phoebe Bridgers, and Elliott Smith, she has created her own approach to music- raw and dreamy vocals melting into soft soul and rock, with a clear passion for storytelling and poetry. Her lyrics tend to be introspective and delicate, often with an added pinch of humour, giving a stage to human imperfections.
The song’s production is a fusion of genres, melding pop’s immediacy with the warmth of adult contemporary, the depth of soul, and the storytelling of folk. What truly sets it apart, is the infusion of Indian classical elements, adding a hypnotic, almost transcendental quality.
Kairvina crafts a deeply reflective journey, examining life through the lens of confusion, chaos, and a touch of good-natured self-deprecation. Her tone is rich, warm, and effortlessly expressive, carrying the song’s emotion along. There’s no urgency in her delivery, every phrase is carefully placed, allowing the story to unfold naturally. Kairvina’s control and restraint highlight the song’s beauty, never overpowering it, but enhancing its essence. It’s a voice that lingers; it is a perfect balance of technical skill and raw heartfelt connection. Not only that, but it also feels deeply personal and universally relatable, and is completed by its layering over a richly instrumental backdrop.
With more singles promised throughout the year I’m sure she will gather more fans to her charming music.
