Single Review Feed the Beast – Tombs Underneath the Tombs

Review By Phil Ingham

Hailing from Westside, LA and stalwarts of the local heavy scene, Feed the Beast look set to introduce themselves onto much bigger stages with their forthcoming album “Mercy”, judging by the debut track “Tombs Underneath the Tombs”.

The album is set to arrive after a year-long hiatus for the band. Penned by original members James Hutchinson (vocals), Nicholas Garcia (guitar), Tye Trujillo (bass) and Patrick Chavez (drums), the album will tour with an amended line up with Trujillo now with Suicidal Tendencies and Chavez with OTTTO, replaced by Julian Lincona and Billy Greenwood respectively.

The single opens with Hutchinson unleashing a fierce growl over a chugging guitar, setting the tone for the rest of the track; a relentless two-minute audio onslaught that stays true to Feed the Beast’s hardcore roots while seamlessly weaving in elements of death metal.

The resulting effort will make for some brutal pits when the album tours.

According to Hutchinson, the track is about “being content with and even embracing hell, which is a fate worse than hell itself” and lyrically it again nods to darker themes more typically found in other genres.

The song transitions between fast, intense guitar and slower, oppressive riffs, yet the weight of the track, propelled by powerful drumming, remains head-crushingly heavy.

If the rest of the album can match the opening single, there is a lot to look forward to when it drops in May 2025.

Discussing the new album Hutchinson proudly declares that “Feed the Beast is back, and our journey as a band is only just beginning”.

It’s a journey I’ll be excited to follow.
