NAZ HEJAZ SINGLE REVIEW

INCURABLE DREAMS

REVIEWER – GRAEME WRIGHT

‘Incurable Dreams’ is the first single by Naz Hejaz from her imminent new album release, ‘Human Halfway House’. It’s diametrically the opposite of my usual fayre in that it’s a dreamy, ambient totally unique song that combines dance music, Pink Floyd guitar work, a hauntingly ethereal vocal performance and it’s chill-out vibe was just what I needed after a pretty exhausting day.

Naz Hejaz is based in Los Angeles and is described as a “quasi-terrestrial artist”, which I can fully believe because this record is unlike anything you have ever heard before, but all the while containing a nagging appeal that will undoubtably get under your skin once it gets its hooks into you. The artists influences include “the eerie whimsy of vintage Disney, the indulgence of Italian erotica and the existential grandeur of Pink Floyd” which coincidentally is pretty close to my browser history and if you added in giallo movie soundtracks you’d have a full house as far as I’m concerned.

The song itself is hugely impressive and starts out with some jaunty synth work before switching to an ambient backbeat with a breathy, seductive vocal that somehow soothe the brain and body. This is the perfect chill out music after a big night out whatever your vice is, but if you want to dig deeper the lyrics are fierce and intelligent and the whole package is highly impressive. I’ll be reviewing the album really soon, but In the meantime give this a spin if your looking for something genuinely different and totally original. Highly recommended.
