On Saturday the 8th of March 2025 Jizzy Pearls Love/Hate celebrating “Black Out In A Red Room’s” 35th anniversary show at Wolverhampton KK’s Steel Mill.

I can’t believe I first listened to album and it was pinnacle to my teenage years 35 years ago. What I can say after seeing Jizzy several times over the years both with Love/Hate and his touring band and after watching some YouTube videos of him saying he would continue to tour until he couldn’t sing the songs like on their original release.

Well I can confirm that Jizzy Pearl can sing and hit the high notes of the songs that were released all those years ago and still possesses the energy and charisma to command the stage that he plays on, absolutely brilliantly.

When in the UK he uses a touring band (Stevie Pearce on guitar, Christian Kimmett on bass and Charles Evans on drums) as the original members have all gone their separate ways, tonight though I was transported back to being 16 years old again. Playing “Blackout In The Red Room” in its entirety was a sight and sound to behold, most of the crowd knew every single word and most of the crowd like me sang along completely unable to get anywhere near the high notes that Jizzy takes in his stride. I can only apologise to my son and anyone else that was stood near me!

Having my son of 14 years with me photographing the concert made me smile as he is a year younger then I was when the album was released 35 years ago – that makes me feel old, but I loved having him be my side and to introduce him to this chapter in my life.

Going through the album with a small back story for certain songs really brought it home as to the quality of the songs from all those years ago, add in Love/Hates new song “You’re Gonna Burn”  and classics including “Spinning Wheel” and “Evil Twin” really put the shine on the gig for those in attendance – they had witnessed something special.

I also spotted a certain Krusher and the legend Blaze Bailey in attendance and at one point Jizzy said he had spoken to Krusher about the good old days when they used to drink and possibly do some other illegal things but Krusher commented that he couldn’t remember –  which is got to be the sign of a good night back in the day!

Playing for 70 minutes against the amazing digital backdrop at KK’s really made for an excellent evening and with Love/Hates new album “Punk Rock Fiesta” available to purchase from the merchandise stand manned by Jizzy’s wife Christina and I might have purchased a six foot poster advertising the event – don’t tell the wife.

I really hope Jizzy continues to come to the UK where he is much loved even after all these years and still maintains great fitness, agility and also his unique voice which made the experience absolutely brilliant I hope it’s not five years again and if you remember Love/Hate and “Blackout In The Red Room” please go and relive your teenage, twenties, thirties or whenever you got into it them. It will be sure to bring a smile to your face like it did for those 500 plus people in attendance at KK’s on Saturday. Jizzy still has a few dates left in the UK so please go see him.

Spread the love
