Review By Halina Wegner
Joanne Shaw Taylor proves once again that blues isn’t just about licks and riffs—it’s about truth. With her new single “Look What I’ve Become,” the British blues-rock powerhouse delivers one of her most emotionally raw and musically powerful performances to date. Out now via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records, the track is a smoky, soul-baring plunge into the depths of addiction, isolation, and the fragile space between surrender and survival.
guitar lines soaked in grit and sorrow, the song immediately sets a tone reminiscent of a Bond theme, but one stripped of glamour and drenched in vulnerability. “My bones have grown so old, the world is only cold,” Joanne sings with gravel in her voice and truth in her heart, drawing listeners into the story of a spirit worn thin but still reaching for the light.
The the guitar cry, ache, and scream alongside her voice. The chorus, “Don’t miss me when I’m gone / I’m nothing now but numb,” hits with devastating weight, echoing long after the last note fades. “Look What I’ve Become” isn’t just a song—it’s a confession, a reckoning, and a warning wrapped in blues and brilliance. It finds Joanne Shaw Taylor at her most fearless—vulnerable yet unflinching, and sonically on fire. This is not only a standout single in her career, but a reminder of why she remains one of the most vital voices in modern blues-rock.
Expect chills, reflection—and perhaps a tear.
