Lauren Babic Releases New EP “Too Much and Never Enough”

Review by Dave Martin

Babic is a Canadian singer and recording artist who now lives in Nashville, Tennessee . She sings metal and rock primarily as well as teaching vocals and production. She is known for her own material as well as featuring with other artists such as guitarist Sophie Lloyd having fronted the performance at the “Whiskey” in January of this year.

In this EP Lauren demonstrates her vocal versatility and entertains her qudience with an array of musical styles in this four track offering.

Opening track “Sanctuary” commences with heavy guitar riffs before pulling back to more spacious vocals then launches into an Asking Alexandriaesque chorus. The heavy guitars then return and Babic is joined by heavy male vocals. Vocals are emotional throughout the track and the contrast adds depth to the song and is a strong start to the EP.

Second song “Breathe You In” demonstrates the varied nature of Babic’s work and has a completely different impression with a change in pace and a more melodic initial feel. This however is broken as the guttural intro of third track “I’m bored” kicks in. The heaviest song of the EP is an angry high octane metal track that demonstrates Babic’s adaptability and is a complete contrast to the previous track on the EP. The final track “Let it Die” features the full range of Babic’s ability’s with both melodic pop sections interspersed between more traditional heavier metal segments which adds interest to the track.

Overall the EP showcases Babic’s talent and ecclectic abilities. Her range is phenominal and I look forward to listening to her body of work going forward.
