When guitar virtuoso Eric Gales says a track is “a really dope song,” you know you’re in for something special—and “Somebody”, featuring Buddy Guy and Roosevelt Collier, is exactly that. Taken from his upcoming collection of explosive blues covers, this standout track serves not only as the album’s finale, but as a heartfelt tribute to legacy, brotherhood, and the living pulse of the blues.
Opening with stripped-down acoustic guitar, “Somebody” begins with introspection and warmth before expanding into a powerful, electric crescendo. The arrangement mirrors the emotional journey embedded in the song—honest, raw, and brimming with soulful energy. Roosevelt Collier’s pedal steel textures add an ethereal quality, while Buddy Guy, a living legend and longtime family connection, delivers a performance full of fire and grace.
Gales credits the collaboration idea to his wife, LaDonna, whose suggestion became a moment of magic. “We don’t know how much time any of us has,” she told him—and that sense of urgency and reverence flows through every note. Though Gales and Guy recorded their parts separately, their chemistry is undeniable; their guitars speak as if in conversation, bridging generations and experiences with mutual respect.
Beyond the music, “Somebody” pays quiet homage to Eric’s late brother Manuel (aka Little Jimmy King), whose spirit threads the record. Buddy and Jimmy once played together, and their connection adds further emotional weight.
