Review By Ian Walker
With Compromised, the third single from the upcoming Echoes album, Caustic Waves dives headfirst into a swirl of aggressive nostalgia and modern dread. Helmed by Glasgow-based one-man powerhouse Neil Thomas, this project picks up where Full Circle left off—and pushes harder, deeper, and weirder.
Influenced by post-hardcore legends like Far and Helmet, and filtered through Thomas’s own sonic fingerprint, Compromised is a tense, twisting journey. Lyrically, it references the Milgram experiment and AI-fuelled paranoia—tackling questions of obedience, ethics, and the creeping unease of technological overreach.
But it’s not just brain food—this track grooves. Stop/start riffs slam into driving bass lines, while unexpected tempo shifts keep listeners unsteady and alert. There’s a grinding edge reminiscent of Taproot or early Chevelle, yet it’s all framed with sharp melodic sensibility.
Caustic Waves is building something special with Echoes—and Compromised proves Neil Thomas isn’t just revisiting the past. He’s retooling it for today’s chaos.
