13 Scream – Deliver a 13th Scream.

Review By Gary Roebuck Images by Callum Roebuck

This Scottish duo have it all, seen it all done it all, we kick off this set on the stroke of 9 and right away “Bam Bam” on drums and “James” vocals/guitar are off and running with opener and soon to released new single “Figure it Out” before another onslaught on drums opens “Keep it Loose” with James delivering an extreme vocal and outstanding instrumental mid song gives us a first insight into what this duo can deliver. As we career along “Sink or Swim” has us well and truly included in this “Maiden” Scottish outing and the future determines that these guys won’t sink. “Listen to It” is delivered with another drumming masterclass from the one the only Adam “Bam Bam”and we aren’t even 20 minutes through.

“Tiny Monsters” catapults us into midset where James asks – “How we are F.. doing?” and we are off again where a sweating James keeps a vocal against a frenetic drum from Adam. “Drowning in Laudanum” follows but before this we are teased that there are teeshirts, patches available to buy before Adam careers into another energy sapping delivery on drums it’s beyond me as I said before how James keeps vocals up with such an energetic drummer behind him such is the delivery on drums I’m sure I heard the drums give a “13thScream” for mercy.

“Lonely way to Die” takes us into the final trio of songs and what a set this has been as James has to take a break before alluding to a “New” album before the year end, what follows is that we are treated to this duo delivering to another level, James unique vocal backed by “Bam Bam” as energetic a drummer as I’ve witnessed lately has kept the unfortunately small audience mesmerized before penultimate tune “Fight” which was the lads first single released in February past and again Adam has his drums pounded before James delivers a powerful vocal.

Set closer for us unfortunately “Open your Eyes” has delivered a 35 minute rollercoaster of a set James opens before Adam joins in as the tune takes a step up in beat another anthemic instrumental is delivered before the set closes and that guys is 13Scream at an end.

Alluded to was “How hard it is to get a Scottish gig” – well guys I’ll tell you on this form “Not Long”

The energy this duo closed with lead guitar and drum instrumental what a crescendo closing was a joy.

Did we want more – yes we did but there was no more in the tank.

If you want more of “13Scream” then watch this space as the much anticipated “New Album” will be dispatched pre the “Big White Bearded Chap” with many more songs included.

Don’t say you haven’t been pre warned.

Adam”Bam Bam”McNaughton and James McCulloch left this unique venue in Bathgate West Lothian having delivered a set to a small band of fans on this their debut Scottish outing and if ever a venue deserved to be on your – must visit list – then this is it small and contemporary with a welcoming feel, these guys really deserve any support you can give them and kudos to “Purple Orange” for getting grass roots bands on stage this is a venue that won’t disappoint if you are at a loose end to catch some live music.

But for now I’ll sign off on having seen another Scottish gem debut.

Until the next time – Adios Gazza. ✌️ And 💕
