Trading Barstools for Baby Bottles – Randall King Grows Up in “Cheatin’ On My Honky Tonk”

Review for Jace Media Music By Glen Parkes

In “Cheatin’ On My Honky Tonk,” Randall King trades whiskey for baby bottles in one of the most heartfelt and clever two-steppers of the year. Teaming up with fellow Texan Braxton Keith, King leans into life’s big changes with a wink, a smile, and a whole lot of twang.

Co-written by Phil O’Donnell, Ira Dean, and the legendary Ronnie Dunn, the track blends classic country sensibilities with King’s signature neotraditional sound. As he sings about trading late nights under neon lights for quiet nights at home with his fiancée Brittany and their newborn daughter Paisley, the song captures the sweet surrender of a honky tonk heart gone domestic.

Keith’s harmonies give the track an added layer of charm, as the two men riff on what it means to “cheat” on the lifestyle they once lived for. But instead of heartbreak, this song is about growing up — without giving up the boots, the beat, or the spirit of Texas country.

Playful, polished, and full of heart, “Cheatin’ On My Honky Tonk” is a toast to fatherhood, fidelity, and a future that sounds pretty damn good with a steel guitar.
