Review By Glen Parkes
The Wild Things have struck gold again with their electrifying new single, “Knock Down, Drag Out”—a sizzling ode to lust, heat, and reckless romance set in the hazy neon glow of New Orleans. This fiery anthem sees vocalist Sydney Rae White delivering one of her most confident and seductive performances to date, as she belts, “Your body is electric, flowers always bloom… You are a vision in light, make your move.” Every lyric drips with urgency and desire, matched by the band’s polished yet punchy pop-rock instrumentation.
Serving as the opening chapter of a two-part story, “Knock Down, Drag Out” is just the beginning of a passionate, doomed affair. The clever use of the phrase—usually reserved for brutal fights—as a metaphor for carnal chaos is equal parts cheeky and clever. It’s not just the sound that’s seductive: the accompanying video, co-directed by guitarist Rob Kendrick and Marcus Maschwitz, sees the band basking in coastal light, dancing through waves of emotional intensity and literal sea spray.
The Wild Things have become known for more than just their anthemic sound—they’re storytellers, adventurers, and boundary-pushers. Their previous choose-your-own-adventure album Afterglow, co-produced by Pete Townshend, was a bold declaration of their creative ambition. With this new single, they continue to evolve—unafraid to be loud, unfiltered, and heartfelt.
As we await the sequel single “I Can’t Wait” and their autumn UK tour, “Knock Down, Drag Out” marks an exhilarating new era for a band that refuses to play it safe. If this is how the story begins, we can’t wait to hear how it ends.
