Single – Brought by a Flame
Release Date – 26th September 25
Review by Linda McDermott
Glasgow’s Pyroclast fuse the fire of old-school heavy metal with the precision of power metal and the intensity of modern thrash. They began life as Tantrum, earning a reputation on the underground scene before breaking through with No Place for the Damned, an album praised for its heavier, more intricate sound and singles like “The Darkest of Times” and “W.A.I.L.” that enjoyed national airplay.
In 2025, the album was re-released as No Place for the Damned Redux MMXXV, remastered and reimagined under the Pyroclast name, signalling a new era for the band. Frontman Mark Reid (Markuz) says: “With this lineup and the sound we’re delivering, the music deserved its own identity. Pyroclast is heavier, sharper, and more ambitious than anything we’ve done before.” Bassist Liam Barrie adds: “The band needed a name that truly captured the energy and intensity of our music. Pyroclast embodies the raw power and force behind our sound.”
PYROCLAST:
Mark Reid – Vocals
Baz Fitzsimmons – Guitars
Chris Horne – Guitars
Liam Barrie – Bass
Mark Riches – Drums
Their first single under the new name, “Pyroclast,” showcased their anthemic, crowd-driven sound, built on harmonised twin-guitar leads, thunderous rhythms, and Markuz’s soaring vocals. Now they return with “Brought by a Flame,” a cinematic, mythic track that demonstrates their storytelling ambition and brings the open-ended Trinity trilogy from No Place for the Damned to a long-awaited conclusion.
With a line-up that blends technical skill and classic metal spirit, guitarists Baz Fitzsimmons and Chris Horne trading melody and muscle. Liam Barrie driving home that bass, and Mark Riches keeping the heartbeat on drums, Pyroclast are proving themselves one of the UK’s fiercest independent metal bands, ready and willing to play those big stages.
Brought By A Flame
This single has impact and drama; it’s the sort of song that belongs as a movie soundtrack. In fact, the video that comes with it feels like it should roll straight across the opening credits. The track has a fantastic story running right through it, not just in the lyrics but in the way the music shifts and flows, every riff and rhythm pushing the narrative forward.

It builds as it tells its tale, pulling you into its atmosphere as it weaves through the narrative. You can hear the highs, the lows, and the tension in between, with Markuz bending and shaping his voice to carry the emotion at every turn. His delivery isn’t just singing; it’s storytelling, and it drives ‘Brought by a Flame’ home with real conviction.
The single is musically powerful and emotionally gripping, showing a band not just playing at full tilt but creating something cinematic. You can feel Pyroclast staking their musical claim, and I’m fully onboard with that. Once you’ve heard the track and seen the video, and believe me, you do want to see it, you’ll be there with Pyroclast too.
This is a track that leaves you wanting more, but it’s also a song that leaves you exhausted on their behalf, as they pour every ounce of energy into it. A first-class single that deserves your attention.
Both song and video will be released on 26th September, so make sure you’ve got a note of that.
As the guys say “The name has changed. The vision is sharper. The journey is only just beginning.”
