Orianthi – Some Kind Of Feeling – Album Review – noblepr

Orianthi Penny Panagaris aka Orianthi is a guitarist / singer / songwriter from Adelaide, Australia who has been wowing audiences since 1999, she has been playing in bands since she was 14 and performed her first stage show for Steve Vai aged15. Orianthi has jammed with Santana, played lead guitar for Carrie Underwood & was hand picked to play guitar for Michael Jackson on his This Is It series of concerts, Orianthi has opened for John Mayer, Mika, Kid Rock, Doughtry, played 30 dates on Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour. Orianthi has toured with Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton, Dave Stewart, James Durbin & joined Richie Sambora. Orianthi has given us Believe in 2009, Heaven Is This Hell in 2013, O in 2020 & Rock Candy in 2022, today she returns with killer new album Some Kind Of Feeling which I will be reviewing today.

Attention – A classic sweet guitar riff opens the track as cymbal snaps let the rhythm section bring the track to our attention(see what I did there), the melodic vocals roll through the track and really let the groove flow as a deep, funking bassline drops in and wraps itself around this punchy toe tapping beat as we really feel the tone come at us. The punchy snare drum beats give the track depth and swagger as Orianthi comes in with a slick, clean sizzling solo that really grabs our attention as this cool number builds and builds as the funky licks really take the track off down the road as Orianthi really lets her soulful, melodic vocals wrap themselves around the track and what a cool opener for this awesome new record.

Some Kind Of Feeling – The track kicks off with a real funky blues style bassline that is joined by sweet,clean guitar picks that just allow the track to open and come at us. Orianthi lets her melodic, soulful vocals wrap themselves around this real toe tapping blues eruption that really grabs your attention as the track unfolds, we get a real punchy, solid snare drum kick that is joined by sweet cymbal snaps that let the rhythm section control the groove as this real feel good track builds and builds. There are nice mellow keys littered throughout the arrangement that just take the track to the next level as we really get to grips with this incredible artist as she cuts loose as she drops an epic guitar solo that just lets this track tell it’s own story as we flow along with this mesmerising musician as she delivers a cool, groove laden track that captures the essence of her playing style as the lyrics just grab you and take you to somewhere new. The band are tight, melodic and really give us a sense that they are telling their own story as the track takes us on a journey that lets Orianthi deliver a well thought out track that will have you reaching for the repeat button for sure.

What I’ve Been Looking For – A mesmerising guitar lick gets the juices flowing in this phenomenal track as Orianthi lets her smouldering vocals let the track breathe. The rhythm section is commanding the room as the groove really gives the track a real emotional beat as we flow along with her and really feel the tone wash over us as this killer blues filled number really grabs our attention, the dark, delicious bassline wraps itself around this epic arrangement as we get phenomenal backing vocals that just lift the track to let us feel the depth, emotion pouring from Orianthi and the rest of the band. A sizzling, rockin solo opens up and really gives the track a cool edgy feel as we flow along with this exceptional musician as she gives us everything she has in this purely emotion filled offering as the solo opens up and just gives us goosebumps as she lets the groove flow through and really tell it’s own story.

Sharp Dressed Man – A classy bluesy guitar riff echoes through the intro as this epic rocking track gets a cool makeover from this exciting musician as she puts her own spin on the offering. The punchy snare drum beats combine with cymbal snaps that let the groove open and soar as we get a crunching, deep, meaty bassline that just takes the track to another place, the epic guitar work is really shining through as Orianthi leans in with her mellow vocals that just puts the perfect tone on this glitzy, classic rock n roll track. The sweet, clean, sharp guitar work really sizzles as we get to grips with this incredible musician as she really takes us through our paces as she rearranges this classic number and really makes it her own.

Ghost – Piano notes linger through the intro as Orianthi brings her soulful, sweet vocals that just light up the track as we feel the emotion oozing from the record as it just takes our breathe away. Backing vocals add a haunting melodic feel to the track as the cool, mellow guitar licks take the track to another place as snare taps let the rhythm section command the track as we just lose ourselves in this fantastic arrangement. The musicality is just sublime as we really feel everything she is putting into the making of this fantastic slab of pure music that is just outstanding, we are really getting everything from this singer / songwriter as she opens up and bares her soul in this real mellow, blues filled guitar laden monster that is just awesome.

First Time Blues(Ft Joe Bonamassa) – A  gritty blues riff opens the track as it erupts into life with a real swagger that gets the juices flowing as a funky, cool bassline brings the low end to our attention. The vocals are smooth, mellow and really wrap themselves around this awesome track as Joe leans in and delivers slick, crisp riffs that add attitude to this foot stomping rock n roll track that is just bubbling to the surface as these two titans of the music world really give us a face off with epic consequences that is like two worlds colliding as this record really hits the spot. The killer rhythm section is commanding the room as it pounds away and brings us sensational beats that just mix well with the epic guitar tones that are being thrown our way in this colossal slab of rock that is just melting faces along the way.

Dark Days Are Gone – A punchy, fast paced intro gets this beast on the move as a pounding snare drum punch really lets the groove open as Orianthi brings her smouldering, mellow vocals that just pop. The funky low end bass grooves are just incredible as the track builds and builds as the toe tapping groove really grabs our attention as the funk laden beat punches us straight in the face, the guys are really giving us all they have as the smooth vocals fit the arrangement perfectly as a slick, crisp solo erupts and really gives this track swagger and bags of attitude as Orianthi really shreds out and leaves it all out there. The punchy, fast paced groove really gets the feet moving as we just rise to the occasion as this full on rock n roll explosion punches us straight in the face with it’s raw, edgy feel.

Bad For Each Other – Returning to a grittier, rasping guitar riff as this fist pumping, foot stomping groover oozes from the get go as we get a slick, clean guitar lick that really lets the track flow. Sizzling, mellow vocals set this track on fire as we get a sludgy, blues filled groove that is just fantastic as a cool, funk laden low end really drops epic tones that let this crunching beast leave it’s mark, we are right in the devil’s cauldron as Orianthi shreds out and really delivers a no nonsense guitar laden number that lets us know she is back and firing on all cylinders for sure. This has epic Hammond style keys that just elevate the track with it’s blues soaked tones that just settle into the thread of this colossal musician as she has delivered imho her best work to date, again what do I know eh.

Call You Mine – A mellow, majestic guitar lick oozes from the intro as sweet, soulful vocals make themselves known as this fantastic arrangement really rises to the surface. The rhythm section is hitting us with a powering beat that lets the snare drum punches rain down on us as we really get the groove of this rock ballad offering that is just outstanding, the low end bass grooves really wrap themselves around this toe tapping rock anthem as it kicks in the doors and really lets us know that Orianthi is back and she means business. The addition of smoldering backing vocals really lets this track breathe as we feel the exquisite guitar work take us to somewhere new as this piano laden number tells it’s own story as we just lose ourselves in the lyrics as they drop real melodies all over the composition that is just awesome.

Heaven Right There – Acoustic strumming tones flow through the intro as snare drum taps allow the rhythm section to lead the way with it’s cool groove as Orianthi leans in and lets her smouldering vocals take the track off down the road, we have cool lap steel licks that just wraps itself right around this incredible track as the groove really delivers with precision as the piano tones littered throughout the track really let the tone work well. The vocals are soulful, bluesy and melodic as the sweet, clean groove just flows as a slick guitar solo ripples through the mid section and lets her really showcase her intricate fingerwork that is just oozing quality as we roll through the track and label this record a triumph as Orianthi has just delivered a killer 10 song slab of pure magic that will sound even better live.
