Oathgate – Ashes – single review – asteria entertainment

Review By Darren McIntyre

Oathgate are a dark metal outfit from London, England who originally formed in 2025 when Thorsten Giersch had the idea of putting together a kick ass growler, scream band that brought something new to the mix. Joining Thorsten were Dee Christopher & Rebekah Knight and we were all but complete, the band bring us their debut single Ashes that has hints of Cradle Of Filth, Dark Tranquility & Insomnium. Please join me as I run us through this exciting new offering.

Ashes – We kick off with a real solumn, deep low end that sets the tone as the slick, crisp guitar tones linger as the mellow vocals deliver us a real gutsy, ballsy riff that just grabs our attention. The rhythm section is commanding the groove as the thundering double kicks rain down on us as snare punches really let the track breathe, the whole composition is just building with momentum as the cool bass kicks let the track cut loose and flow effortlessly through the arrangement as the band just gels together and really lets us know they have arrived. The musicianship is strong, dark and just lets us feel the energy oozing from the band as they set out their stall and let us feel what is in store from this exciting outfit, a real crunching, power driven beast that allows you to drift off and feel the music pulsing through your veins.
