Gary and Callum Roebuck review and photos
Setting us off on this “Halloween Eve” debut “Dreadnought” gig for the guys, in front of a very appreciative audience these legends of guys Adam “Bam Bam” McNaughton on drums,James McCulloch on guitar and Robbie Greer on bass were here to give us a good time as they played most of the debut album “Hunt down and Kill”

This killer set with the guys getting into Halloween themed makeup and dress started with a crescendo of noise as Adam,s drums took their first beats of the night as James and Robbie struck their first chords of “Figure it Out” flashing lights dance around the stage as Adam and Robbie get the rhythm kicking in to James vocals the volume is of the scale, with Robbie”Mario cart” for the night dancing around the stage as the first instrumental is delivered if we’ve not figured it out that this is going to be one awesome gig the energy is breathtaking.
“Stuck in the Inbetween has the same adrenaline fueled intro of Adam’s drums, before the guys kick in with such ferocity a great start to proceedings as another ferocious ending is delivered.
“Listen to it All” gives us a deeper drum intro and a class heavier intro from the boys out front before James vocals kick in with Robbie joining on backing vocals as an eerie smoke envelopes the stage, the skeletons and ghouls adding to the proceedings – I’ll ask you to seek “Hunt down and Kill” and “Listen to it All”.
How you all doing Bathgate James asks before “Sink or Swim” gives us Adam and James opening before Robbie’s bass kicks in another masterclass from Adam on drums, teeshirtless from the off his customary long locks flowing “Sink or Swim” these guys won’t “sink” – they are on the up!
James cannae drink cause he’s driving so he’s just gonnae buy a big munchy box on the way home he tell us which gets a laugh from the Hauntingly appropriately dressed Dreadnought bar.
“Keep it Loose” wow what a tune this is easily the heaviest of the night from the guys giving us the first heavy duty head swaying, toe tapping with Adams drums crashing, lights dancing on the smoke fueled stage as Adam delivers the mother of all drum bashing with James ripping through the chords, Robbie with the energy of someone not on stage for the first time time after his set with the opening band “ The Underneath” who are most underrated and I’d say give a listen to given the opportunity.
“A lonely way to Die” opens with Adam on drums with a slower opening before the heavy guitar and bass kicks in this is another “headbanger’s ball” of a tune as the guys kick in vocally again after an instrumental this is one epic night.
“Tiny Monsters” kicks off Adam has sweat pouring from him on drums, James guitar kicks in before Adam and Robbie,s rhythm midset we are still running on full such is the pace of this set from the trio Adam from Ayrshire, local lad James from Linlithgow and Robbie local too from Blackburn the West Lothian audience appreciating the soaring vocals and the energy of all three.

“Drowning in your Laudanum” is another of these punky angst ridden intros how the drum skins and guitar chords have survived this onslaught “Mario” is now Robbie on bass before the guys deliver another instrumental drums, deep guitar and bass as James vocals soar and Adams drums thunder.
“Open your Eyes” James opens guitar and vocals before Adams rising drums and Robbie’s bass kicks in this is 13Scream at their best tonight “Open your eyes” to the name before dancing lights adorn the stage again as Adam gets a bit of respite before a cascading drumbeat again.
James then tells us “We’ve got an album for sale and we need money “ so go buy it” is asked.
First single “Fight” is delivered a heavier drum, and bass before James delivers another vocal to be proud of as strobe lights join the back of the band how Robbie had the energy to play 2 mammoth sets is to be applauded James alludes he messed the tune up forgetting how to play it which gets a laugh and banter is returned due to the mishap.
Penultimate tune “Call Me” is a surprise addition to the set and the only cover from from the guys tonight delivering the epic “Blondie” 80’s tune this is one great cover from the boys with Robbie joining on backing vocals, Adams drums mirroring the legend that was Blondie drummer Clem Burke if you closed your eyes “Call Me” yes call these boys this tune was greatly appreciated by the audience.
“Man in the Castle” gives us a last crashing rock song Adam giving one last energy fuelled onslaught on drums with James heavy guitar and Robbie joining in the rhythm dancing lights join the boys as the set closes the lads give one last energy bursting effort for the “Dreadnought” on this “Halloween Eve” gig as Adams drums crashing, James guitar strings bleeding and Robbie deepest bass tonight closes on a 50 minute rock masterclass.
Guys in the last 15 months it’s astonishing what is being achieved having first debuted just around the corner in another Bathgate music venue.
I look forward to an epic 2027 for these guys and anyone not aware of 13Scream then give them a listen.
Until the next time – Adios Gazza ✌️
