Corabi Brings The Heat: A European Shuffle Masterclass at The Classic Grand

John Corabi & Friends – European Shuffle Tour
Live at The Classic Grand, Glasgow

When you talk about seasoned journeymen of rock ‘n’ roll, you’re talking about John Corabi. Born in Philadelphia and now residing in Nashville, Corabi has spent decades living and breathing this music, carving out a career that few can rival. Active since 1988, his résumé reads like a greatest-hits list of hard rock history, having fronted or collaborated with the likes of Mötley Crüe, The Dead Daisies, Union, Brides Of Destruction and more. Each chapter has added another layer to his songwriting, his voice, and his unmistakable presence. With his long-awaited debut solo album New Day landing on April 24th, the European Shuffle Tour feels less like a victory lap and more like a statement of intent—Corabi very much has more to say.

To bring that story to life on stage, Corabi assembled a truly mouth-watering lineup. Joining him at Classic Grand were Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith), Jeremy Ashbrook (Scream/Extreme), Michael Devin (Whitesnake), Paul Taylor (Winger/Alice Cooper) and Troy Luccketta (Tesla). On paper, it’s a supergroup stacked with pedigree and prestige. On stage, however, it feels like something far more organic — a brotherhood of musicians feeding off one another, playing for the sheer love of it, and revelling in the shared language of rock ‘n’ roll.

As the house lights dim, the buzz in the room is palpable. The band saunter on stage to a wall of applause, relaxed and confident, before launching straight into New Day. A crisp, clean guitar lick cuts through the room, immediately grabbing attention, while Corabi’s gritty, rasp-laden vocal arrives fully formed and full of authority. There’s no easing into the set — this is a statement opener. Devin’s bass rumbles with a dark, moody undertow as Taylor’s keys shimmer above, giving the track depth and swing. Glasgow wastes no time in showing its appreciation, welcoming Corabi like an old friend.

That Memory follows, riding in on a deep, punchy groove that leans into bluesy swagger while still packing arena-ready hooks. It’s here that the chemistry of the band really starts to shine. Eyes are constantly darting between bandmates, smiles exchanged, and knowing nods marking transitions. These are musicians who have done the miles, and it shows in how effortlessly they lock in together.

When I’m Gonna Ride drops, the temperature inside the Classic Grand noticeably rises. Twin guitars snarl and intertwine as Luccketta drives the rhythm home with thunderous authority, every snare hit landing with precision. Ashbrook steps forward for a blistering solo, slick and melodic, drawing huge cheers from the packed crowd. It’s raw, muscular rock ‘n’ roll delivered with class.

Corabi then shifts gears, slowing things down with an acoustic-led Love (I Don’t Need It Anymore). The change of pace highlights the emotional depth of his voice, which remains as powerful and expressive as ever. The crowd sings back every word, hanging on each lyric, and that sense of connection only deepens during Father, Mother, Son. It’s a heartfelt moment, building patiently before swelling into something truly stirring, with Frederiksen and Ashbrook adding tasteful flourishes rather than overpowering the song.

Between tracks, Corabi proves himself a natural storyteller. His between-song banter is warm, humorous and disarmingly sincere, peppered with anecdotes from the road and reflections on his long career. On a freezing Glasgow night, he thanks everyone for turning out, clearly moved by the reception. ‘Good To Be Back Here Again‘ and ‘When I Was Young’ carry a reflective tone, offering glimpses into the experiences that shaped him, both as a musician and as a man.

The classics ignite the second half of the set. Midnight Moses is a full-throttle romp, the crowd gleefully joining in on cue as Corabi conducts the sing-along with a grin. The groove is relentless, with Devin’s bass and Luccketta’s drums forming an unshakeable backbone. Hooligan’s Holiday arrives with a fresh acoustic makeover, breathing new life into the Crüe favourite while retaining its defiant spirit.

The encore delivers pure magic. Man In The Moon is stripped back and soulful, the room falling almost completely silent as Corabi pours emotion into every line, the band respectfully stepping back to give the song space to breathe. Then, with one final surge of energy, Dead & Gone explodes into life — pounding rhythms, snarling twin-guitar riffs and Corabi’s unmistakable voice driving it all home in triumphant fashion.

John Corabi & Friends didn’t just deliver a gig; they delivered a celebration — of rock history, shared stories, enduring friendships and pure musicianship. For everyone packed into the Classic Grand that night, this wasn’t just another show. Glasgow witnessed something genuinely special, and it’s a night that will be talked about for a long time to come.
