Stud Farm Mafia Did You Have a Good Weekend

REVIEW BY Glen Parkes

I stuck on Did You Have a Good Weekend? expecting a few big riffs and a bit of attitude. What I didn’t expect was to feel personally attacked by a six-track EP—in a way that somehow made me want to turn it up louder. Stud Farm Mafia don’t mess about. From the first listen, it’s obvious this isn’t background music. It’s the sound of someone grabbing you by the collar and asking what you’re actually doing with your life.

It hits that sweet spot between Royal Blood’s low-end punch, Skindred’s bounce, and the weird, sideways swagger of Queens of the Stone Age. But there’s also this very British, very sarcastic edge to it that makes it feel closer to home. Everything sounds tight and in your face, but not polished to death. You can tell it was recorded to feel physical, not pristine.

“Moneymouth” kicks things off and immediately sets the mood. The riffs are chunky and sharp, and the groove just pulls you in. It’s heavy, but it moves—and that’s something I loved all the way through the EP. “So Pretty” had me smirking on first listen. It absolutely takes the piss out of gym-bro culture and surface-level confidence, and it does it with hooks that get stuck in your head whether you like it or not. “Ten Past Ten” hit hardest for me. It perfectly nails that trapped-in-the-loop feeling of the 9–5 grind, and it’s uncomfortable because it’s true. “S.O.S.” adds a different layer altogether—still heavy, still loud, but with a sense of purpose that makes it feel bigger than just a song.

What really surprised me was how danceable a lot of this feels. The guitars chop and twist rather than just chug, the bass refuses to stay in the background, and the drums bounce and stop-start in a way that keeps things exciting. Even when it’s heavy, it feels built for movement.

“Ten Past Ten” hit hardest for me. It perfectly nails that trapped-in-the-loop feeling of the 9–5 grind, and it’s uncomfortable because it’s true. By the time “Gun Show” rolls around, that swagger feels fully weaponised—ridiculous, self-aware, and stupidly catchy.

By the end of the EP, I realised why it works so well. It’s painfully relatable, all at once. Did You Have a Good Weekend? It feels like music made by people who’ve stopped pretending everything’s fine—and honestly, that makes it hit even harder.
