Review By Smudge Smith

It’s a welcome return to Danish thrashers Artillery. Only four tracks, but it’s a perfect chance for new singer Martin Steene and guitarist Rene Loua to show what they’ve got.

They open with an eastern-flavoured intro on the title track, which soon goes into a rapid, rabid beast of a thrasher. Steene has a fine voice, and the guitars are razor sharp. ‘Ghost In The Machine’ offers up another melodic intro before they change gears and they’re away on some power thrash led by the awesome rhythms of drummer Frederik Kielstrup Hansen before some stunning axework from Loua and Michael Stutzer. Next, we get a re-recording of ‘Into The Universe’ from the 1985 debut ‘Fear Of Tomorrow’. I love hearing these re-recordings done on modern equipment. They bring so much depth and power. Steene shows he can scream as well as roar, and he proves it on the live cut of ‘The Almighty’, which was recorded at Roskilde on their 2024 tour.

Artillery often get forgotten about when we mention great thrash bands, but to me, they deserve a whole lot more attention because they’re awesome and have been since 1985! Hey thrash metal fan, do yourself a solid and check these guys out; they are true thrash, and this is a fine addition to their catalogue. Hopefully they will release a full album soon and then tour. In thrash we trust – as they say!
