Troy Redfern is undoubtedly the king of the slide guitar who has certainly showed us he deserves the recognition bestowed upon him. Troy has been touring constantly and has graced the stage with the likes of The Sweet, When Rivers Meet, Quireboys, Robert Jon & The Wreck and played many festivals including Steelhouse, Maid Of Stone & RAWA Blues Festival. Troy has given us The Fire Cosmic, Wings Of Salvation & new offering Invocation as we ll as a EP’s & singles, Troy is on the road and tonight rolls into Oran Mor in Glasgow so please join me as we get down and dirty with the slide guitar god himself, the lights dim as Troy makes his way to the stage and brings with him a rhythm section of the awesome Nicky Waters, he bellows out hello Glasgow as he rips into a new track –
Shakin – The stage is dark as Troy strolls onto the stage and hits us with a deep, sizzling slide guitar lick that gets this new track off the ground, the combo is complete as Troy is joined by the fantastic Nicky Waters on the drums to get tonight’s gig underway. The heavy pounding bass kicks fill the venue as Nicky is driving the groove whilst standing throughout the whole show which is epic, Troy steps forward and brings his gravelly, soulful vocals to this colossal new offering that really kicks ass. The place is filling up nicely as the duo are hitting the ground running and really bringing the rock n roll beat to Glasgow tonight, we are punching the air and feeling the blues tones rip through Oran Mor tonight as the boys deliver a real sludgy, blues assault that is brought together with a real solid snare drum beat that brings cymbal crashes that let us know Troy Redfern is in the house, the place erupts with whoops and hollering shouts as Troy thanks us for coming out to see him and Nicky do their thing, up next –
Takin My Soul – The track comes at us with a pounding bass / snare drum assault as Nicky brings the groove to let this monster new track come to life as Troy lets his cool, dark, brooding vocals take this track to another place as the thundering rhythm section takes control. The sludgy guitar riffs are oozing from the stage as Troy open up and brings a real slide guitar lick to the show.
The combination of the two guys gels really well as they are feeding off each others energy as this foot stomping beat really grabs a hold of you as the boys get us to put our hands in the air and really get into this pounding, fast paced gritty rock n roll groover that picks up the pace as we stroll through the mid section and really feel the heavier, raunchy riffs that are filling the venue tonight, as stonking new ditty from the king of slide guitar as he really puts everything into tonight’s performance, we applaude loudly and really feel the swagger flowing from the rock star like figure strutting around the hallowed Oran Mor Stage tonight, next –
Native – Troy changes his guitar to open the track with a real cool guitar riff that is followed by a punchy bass beat that allows Troy to bring his gravelly blues vocals that let the track flow. The slide element is just incredible as we feel every note pouring from the stage tonight that is followed by a real heavy, pulsing beat as Nicky really gets the juices flowing as we just let ourselves go and feel the energy coming from the stage tonight. The chemistry is just awesome as Troy leans in and lets his vocals do the talking as the crowd falls silent and watches the king of slide do his thing, we feel the rhythm section pound away and really give this track depth, swagger and bags of attitude.
The place is just watching the stage as Troy bellows out with his trademark gravelly vocals that match the track perfectly as the track changes tempo and welcomes cymbal crashes that have a meaty snare drum beat that lets the track run free and lets us get to grips with this fantastic musician, Troy chats for a bit and thanks us for coming out to watch some geezer do his thing with a guitar and bring his buddy to fill the rhythm section with ease and that brings a huge cheer, we roll into –
Dark Religion – Troy tunes up his trusty steed before kicking in the doors and letting this sultry, dark number leave it’s mark on Oran Mor tonight as the cymbal rolls wander freely through the intro. A pounding bass kick lets the rhythm section get this crunching blues style track off the ground. The gravelly, soulful vocals are flowing effortlessly through the venue as we kick in the doors and really let this guy get under our skin as he lets his fingers do the talking as the slide tones are rippling throughout the whole track that just makes this track something special, there is a real darkness that makes this track sing with ease as the duo really digs deep and berings the groove to Glasgow tonight, we are heading into the business end of the show as Troy hits us with the punchy –
Waiting For Your Love – Troy slips on his trusty resonator and lets Nicky bring the heat as a cool snare drum / bass kick unfolds as this foot stomping gritty beast rears it’s head. Troy lets his gritty vocals take this track forward as we get slide tone anfter slide tone that really lets this track breathe as the place slips into rock mode and feels the sludgy guitar riffs fill the air, the punchy rhythm section is bringing the heat as the cymbal crashes let this track really express itself as we rock n roll with epic guitar licks that are letting us know that Troy is really giving it to us straight tonight. The place has it’s horns up as we really dig the groove pouring from the stage tonight as the two boys give their all up on the stage tonight and boy I can tell you if you missed it shame on you as this guy is awesome, we roll into the last track –
Sanctify – Troy steps forward and starts shredding on his guitar as Nicky brings the groove with a solid rhythm section that just erupts with a real cool tone that gets us all moving and shaking.. The groove in this monster is just incredible as Troy just rocks out and lets his slide guitar work do the talking as we are watching in awe as he goes through the gears and really gives it to us with all he has, the rhythm section is blowing away the cobwebs with a thundering snare punch that compliments Troy’s exquisite playing that makes this a perfect match let me tell you. The pounding beat carries on in the background as Troy steps forward and lets his fingers bring the magic to Glasgow tonight as we feel the intensity flowing freely as the boys just give us what we came for, this has truly been something special as the place has appreciated the musicianship that has come our way tonight. The boys were on top form and really brought a smile to our faces tonight as the place really appreciated the workmanship oozing from the hallowed stage tonight, Troy & Nicky take the applause as they leave the stage like two conquering gladiators that have just defeated the beast.
