Gig Review: Kat Von D – Scala London – June 17th, 2024

Review By Mark Thompson

Last night at Scala London proved to be an electrifying night of raw energy and unforgettable performances. The venue was packed with eager fans, all ready for an evening of rock and alternative music.

The support act, Prayer, an American rock band founded in 2013 by Rafael Reyes, delivered a gritty and intense set that immediately captured the audience’s attention. Their blend of heavy riffs, rebellious attitude, and raw emotion set a high-energy tone. Reyes’s commanding stage presence, combined with the band’s visceral sound, created an authentic and immersive experience. Tracks like “Beast” and “Blood” had the crowd headbanging and singing along, igniting anticipation for the headliner.

When Kat Von D stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere intensified. Known primarily for her artistry and tattoos, Kat brought her unique style and charisma to the forefront. Her set featured a mix of her own singles and covers (Black Leather by Prayers), all performed with a fierce passion. Notable moments included her powerful rendition of “set Myself on fire which showcased her gritty vocals and emotional depth, as well as her energetic performance of “Exorcism.”

The crowd was fully engaged, singing along to choruses and exchanging excited energy, transforming the evening into a collective celebration of artistic expression. It was a night that reinforced the power of live music to unite and inspire.

Overall, it was a fantastic night at Scala London, with Prayer’s raw intensity and Kat Von D’s magnetic stage presence delivering a memorable experience for all in attendance. Fans left energized, eager to see what future performances hold.
