Incite – ‘Savage New Times’ Review

Thrash Metal

Reigning Phoenix Music

Release Date – August 15th 2025

Review By Smudge Smith

Incite are from Phoenix, Arizona and are led by singer Richie Cavalera who is the stepson of extreme metal legend Max Cavalera. They cross the divide between thrash and groove metal and have been going since 2009.

They don’t hang about getting straight to the point on opener ‘Lies’ with a brutal rhythm and razor-sharp riff allowing Cavalera to roar his voice hoarse before continuing on the rabis ‘Feel This Shit’ – the guy doesn’t sound happy, and I hope he’s got whatever was upsetting off his chest. New guitarist Layne Richardson gets chug happy on ‘Just A Rat’ which brings the groove metal in a big way, and I have no doubt this will induce a very large pit. Richardson pulls out some fine riffage on ‘Chucked Off’ which continues the groove thing before the stomp of ‘Doubts And The Fear’ and the creepy metal ballad of ‘Dolores’. ‘No Mercy No Forgiveness’ has a chugfest of an intro before they settle into a thrash/groove hybrid driven along by drummer Lennon Lopez and his rapid double kick. ‘Used And Bused’ is slow burn start and enters black metal territory with its double picked riff before it grinds out into the jagged ‘Never Die Once’. Final cut is the title track, and they save the best for last. This is awesome powerful, brutal and relentless.

Riches has obviously learnt a thing or two off his stepdad. Like how to keep the momentum going and how to write brutal yet catchy songs. Credit to the others guys and to producer Steve Evetts and mix master Arthur Rizk for putting the muscular meat on the bones. This is heavy and groovy, loud and brutal, so handle with care!
