Do you know who I am?” ask HVIRESS on the venom-laced lead single from their forthcoming debut — but it’s not a question, it’s an inquisition. The duo’s dark, driving, and bacchanal new deathpop song “I Am The Snake Queen” explores the seductive chaos of overconsumption, fast fashion, and the glittering debris of late-stage capitalism, through a lens of ancient magic and feminine power. Propulsive and expertly crafted, the song is both sinister and self-assured.
Once described as “Joan Jett meets Alastair Crowley,” HVIRESS is the occult, musical love child of Brighton, UK-based Hana Piranha and Mishkin Fitzgerald of Crimson Veil and Birdeatsbaby. Global sounds, glitchy percussion, snakelike synths, and grim piano stabs sit atop a goth-tinged hyperpop dembow beat, as the pair share vocal duties throughout. Both infectious and light-hearted, “I Am The Snake Queen” is a dance on the ruins of disposable culture where the snake queen is both destroyer and divine, shedding the skin of shame and making a kingdom from the landfill of human desire.

“Hana and I came up with the concept for ‘I Am The Snake Queen’ after a fateful night on some psychedelic mushrooms that went slightly wrong. Hana was transformed into an ancient deity and after coming out of the darkness she became the snake queen. After that experience we both thought it was too good not to write a song about. We have always seen HVIRESS as a project for mixing ancient magick with modern trash. ‘I Am The Snake Queen’ blends those two worlds seamlessly.” – Mishkin Fitzgerald

Dancing on the Ruins — HVIRESS Unleash “I Am The Snake Queen”
Brighton-based dark-pop duo HVIRESS have emerged from the shadows with “I Am The Snake Queen,” a venom-dripping, magick-infused single that slithers straight into your psyche. Serving as the lead track from their upcoming debut album BITCHHOUSE (due October 3rd via GIVE/TAKE), it’s a track that blends the occult with the irresistible pulse of modern pop in a way that’s both sinister and intoxicating.
Comprising Hana Piranha and Mishkin Fitzgerald (of Crimson Veil and Birdeatsbaby fame), HVIRESS describe themselves as “Joan Jett meets Alastair Crowley,” and on this track, that fusion burns bright. Glitchy percussion, snake-like synths, grim piano stabs, and a goth-tinged hyperpop dembow beat create a sonic backdrop that’s as hypnotic as it is unsettling. The pair’s shared vocals weave between seductive whispers and commanding declarations, embodying the Snake Queen’s dual role as both destroyer and divine.
Lyrically, “I Am The Snake Queen” is a glitter-covered dagger aimed at the heart of overconsumption, fast fashion, and the chaos of late-stage capitalism. It’s a dance on the rubble of disposable culture, an anthem for shedding the skin of shame and reclaiming power from the wreckage.
The song’s origin story is as wild as the track itself. After a psychedelic trip took an unexpected turn, Hana found herself transformed—at least in spirit—into an ancient deity, the Snake Queen. That surreal, hallucinatory experience became the seed for this potent piece of electro-witchcore, proving that in the HVIRESS universe, even chaos can be alchemised into art.
“I Am The Snake Queen” isn’t just a song—it’s a statement. Bold, bewitching, and brimming with attitude, HVIRESS invite you to join their kingdom of beautiful ruin. The only question is: will you dare to bow?
