Blackmarket iii at the Tuesday Night Music Club, Coulsdon

Review and Images By Ken Jackson

Black Market III made a triumphant return to the Tuesday Night Music Club last night for their third appearance, playing to a lively and appreciative crowd of music lovers. The band first graced the TNMC stage back in 2016 and returned in 2019, and if Covid hadn’t disrupted live music in 2020, we’d no doubt have seen them again much sooner.

Hailing from San Diego, California, this hard-working and highly accomplished trio delivered their trademark mix of blues, soul, and rock: an eclectic and passionate set featuring a wealth of original material alongside some beautifully executed covers.

Frontman Scottie Blinn, together with his wife, Roxanne Coverdale, on vocals and bass, who also writes much of the band’s material, and Joe Hager on drums, formed a tight and powerful lineupthat filled the room with energy. This show marked the final stop of their UK dates before heading off to tour Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland over the coming weeks. Their new album, Soul Survivor, was available at the merch desk, and for anyone who missed out, it can be purchased via their website:

blackmarketiii.com/store. Black Market III delivered a tremendous performance, earning a well-deserved standing ovation before returning for a final encore. An outstanding set from a three-piece that truly sounds like a four-piece, with Mike on the sound desk ensuring that every note was perfectly balanced for this exceptional band.
