Sisters Doll – Voodoo Rooms Edinburgh
Thursday 25th June ‘26
“Good day to be Alive” tour.
“Sisters Doll leave their magic in Scotland”
“Sisters Doll” came and conquered on a hot and humid night in the capital in our reorganised
gig due to the unfortunate circumstances incurred at the legendary “Bannermans”.
Little more than a year since their last visit to these shores after a lengthy absence. We were
treated to a near 2 hour set due to co-headliners Midnight City unavailability due to a
breakdown.
Opening the set with “Purgatory” we were straight into “Climbing out of Hell” what an
opening with all the boys supporting Brennan on vocals, the small stage didn’t hold back the
energy with Bryce and Sage on drums and bass they both had the rhythm pounding, Austin
with his swagger on the guitar strings supporting.
”United” followed giving us a triple opening from the 2025 album “Scars” the audience
clapped into the intro as we got Sage pogoing with the guys delivering a mind numbing start
to the evening this Aussie 4 piece of brothers have it all, the audience in the Voodoo Rooms
were in for a Southern hemisphere assault as Bryce delivered another drum masterclass
with Austin and Brennan ramping up the energy at the front with another bass assault from
Sage the youngster of the band.
“Johnny” and the raw energy was exuding all around the stage as Brennan sweat pouring
already delivered another astonishing vocal with Austin and Sage backing the “woah woahs”
with Bryce stood up his party piece joined the vocals backing with “hey hey hey’s” delivered
by the audience in return before “Dancing with the Devil” gave us our second tune from the
2017 “All Dolled Up” release Brennan jacketless asked for “woah yeah” returns we have 4
pinup poster boys with more mascara and eye liner than a Californian cat walk the melodies
are something to behold what energy as Bryce is stood up crowd hands in the air clapping
with “woah woah yeahs” being returned foot tapping, head banging class is being exuded
tonight.
“You can’t bring me Down” takes us back to “Scars” what a bass line Sage is the epitome of
coolness sleeveless tee “You can’t bring me Down” tonight you sure can’t this is heaven as
Brennan and Sage join at the front of the stage with a thunderous rhythm from Bryce at the
back with the long haired Austin backing.
“Kiss Me” keeps the “Scars” album going we’ve come to party before heading back to
Australia as the “Kiss me miss Me” lyrics that were asked to be returned were with the
audience clapping with the lads all backing on vocals what’s not to like about these boys
shirt open Brennan is joined by an awesome Austin solo with the vocal backing.
“Take you Away” another from the latest album is a little heavier with Austin on guitar he
leads with a drum intro from Bryce before Brennan delivered another ear shattering vocal
“Take you Away” lyrically certainly does.
We were then treated to an astonishing solo from Austin black waistcoated, ripped jeans and
sparkling boots delivered he really showcased his class on the strings before Bryce joined in
on cymbals it was then alluded that this was Austin’s own composition before “Black Mirror”
filled the air clapping audience for another toe tapper with the boys all joining the vocals the
boys have the audience in the palm of their hands as “black black mirror” is returned vocally
as Austin showcased another instrumental with Brennan and Sage backing the rhythm of
these boys is off the scale with Bryce bursting the drums.
We stick with the “Scars” album for “Baby Doll” gets an outing with a dark heavy drum beat
intro a more moody vocal before we kick in to the expected energy with all guns blazing and
drums as we get another drum stick twirl from Bryce with a head banging Brennan delivering
another mesmerizing vocal, “Brennan” then alludes to the crazy crazy Scots about returning
next year as we have the first outing tonight off the first album ”Falling” from ”Welcome to the
Dollhouse” how can this release be from 14 years ago is one of these early tunes but still a
crowd pleasing song very melodic in the middle and the customary “woah woahs” coming
again with another energy sapping drum from Bryce the rhythm between him and Sage is off
the scale with Brennan and Austin joining a dual guitar onslaught the toe tapping is hard to
avoid such a joy this gig is considering it’s the penultimate of the British tour.
“Strutt” with Sage on bass the youngest of the band as the others have a quick breather
before a thunderous drum intro sees the boys swap stage before returning to their usual
positions “Strutt” is just what it says in this set as the guys keep the energy levels ramped up
clapping is asked again and returned before a Bryce masterclass on drums what a maestro
before the energy exploded in the Voodoo Rooms I’m sure a certain crowd heard it at the
smaller headliner venue in Scotland’s second city at Hampden this was the gig of the night a
triple salvo at the front from the boys of arm swinging guitar playing in unison this has been 1
awesome first hour – “Strutt” what a tune.
“Love Gun” the Kiss cover was returned in unison from the audience in return not an inch
had been given from the boys tonight what a show the vocals being returned from our side of
the stage were dynamite you could feel the love for these boys as said before the tightness
is to behold as the 3 boys deliver at the edge of the stage led by Bryce behind them what a
noise from the crowd now the party is started.
“Change” who’s had a hard low point is asked we blame everyone but who can change you –
the answer is – “you” this is one awesome track with the boys all joining the vocals the
energy and hour and a quarter in without a break is to be appreciated as I stood at the front
of the stage,as we get an intro to the band Sage on bass, Bryce on drums the master of the
sticks, Austin on guitar one of the best states Brennan the “Scottish Doll” army give a round
of applause.
“Welcome to the Dollhouse” sees us enter the final stretch what an intro with its drum beat
before the guys join with the “dollhouse” lyric resounding around us in the audience before
another thunderous instrumental, you’ve also got to take your hat off to Bryce 90 minutes in
no let up on the sticks before a Europe style finale from the 3 at the front Austin is still licking
strings.
We got an awesome “Extreme” cover of “Get the funk Out” not usually played we then had
the request that was to play Voodoo Rooms larger upstairs next year before penultimate
tune “Prisoner” ramps up the energy again what a vocal the audience mesmerized as we are
led into the set closer and band anthem of late the aptly named and re energised “Good day
to be Alive” and tour headline – what a way to end the set – it certainly is a “Good time to be
Alive” to witness the growth and demand for these boys as having said already having
played the city last year on the second date of their tour to return this year with the
penultimate gig is an accolade not many deserve and to carry off such a gig on a Thursday
night.
As the night concluded the band left the stage to “God gave rock and roll to You” he certainly
has given it to these Aussie boys and they certainly left it with us to keep until their return.
Guys I caught you last year as support in Bannermans with Kickin Valentina on your return
to the UK after a long time and on this latest showing you will have bands galore stepping up
to play stages with you such is your stature.
I wish you all the best, it was great speaking with you all post gig and hearing of your
ambitions for the next year, new music etc being on top of the agenda. I look forward with
eagerness to what lies ahead.
Until the next time – Adios Gazza
