| KICKIN VALENTINA release “Anthems From The Underground” today |
| KICKIN VALENTINA’s new album, “Anthems From The Underground”, is officially out today via Mighty Music – a hard-hitting celebration of everything that makes underground rock’n’roll matter. For more than a decade, the Atlanta-based band have built their reputation the old-fashioned way: loud guitars, relentless energy, sweat-soaked live shows and a refusal to play by anyone else’s rules. Now, with “Anthems From The Underground”, Kickin Valentina turn that attitude into a new full-length statement that finds the band pushing themselves beyond familiar territory without losing the raw edge that got them here. The album’s title says it all. Rather than looking at the underground as a limitation, Kickin Valentina embrace it as a badge of honour, and pay tribute to the fans, musicians and independent spirit that keep rock music alive outside the mainstream. Bassist Chris Taylor explains: “On this album we decided to bring in a different producer. We love everything Andy Reilly did on our previous albums, but creatively we thought it was time to do something different and have someone push us out of our comfort zone. Every record we want to grow as a band and I think Pete brought out the best of us individually in the studio”. That new creative partnership came in the shape of producer Pete Newdeck, who recorded the album with the band in Atlanta before mixing was handled at PNProductions in the UK and mastering by Harry Hess at H-Bomb Mastering in Toronto. The result is a record that retains Kickin Valentina’s trademark punch while giving their songs a fresh sense of dynamics, aggression and purpose. The story behind the title came together naturally. As Chris recalls, he and vocalist DK were leaving the studio one day, throwing ideas around for a name that could capture what the band and their audience represent. “I told him I thought we should embrace the fact that we were an underground band and pay tribute to fans that support underground music. After kicking around a few ideas back and forth, “Anthems From The Underground” was born”. And that is exactly what the record feels like: songs for the people who keep turning up. For the fans who still want their rock loud, direct and unapologetic. For those who would rather discover a great band in a packed club than follow whatever happens to be fashionable. “Anthems From The Underground” is out now on LP (purple vinyl, limited to 500 copies), digipack CD and digital formats, via Mighty Music. It can be purchased and streamed via this link. |
| Formed in Atlanta in 2013, Kickin Valentina have spent the years since building an international following through a succession of releases including “Super Atomic”, “Imaginary Creatures”, “Revenge of Rock”, “Star Spangled Fist Fight”, “Raw Trax, B-Sides and Bootlegs” and the “Chaos in Copenhagen” EP. Their latest chapter is “Anthems From The Underground”, and it arrives as a reminder that, sometimes, the underground is exactly where the best anthems are born. Lineup: D.K.
