SOJO TURNS HEARTBREAK INTO A FRESH START WITH THE NEW SINGLE
‘ARENA FOR LOVE’ – LISTEN HERE
DEBUT ALBUM ‘FEELING FREE’ FOLLOWS ON DECEMBER 4TH

Sometimes something good comes from the worst of times. A mother of two teenage daughters, SoJo was in the midst of the breakdown of her marriage when she played her favourite song – ‘Flashdance…What A Feeling’ by Irene Cara – as an escape from the situation. The lyrics “Take your passion, and make it happen” spoke to her like never before. And so this enthusiastic but previously completely untrained music lover signed up for a songwriting course. It’s been a long journey to make it happen, but the moment is here as SoJo shares her new single ‘Arena For Love’ ahead of her debut album ‘Feeling Free’ which follows on December 4th. Listen HERE.
‘Arena For Love’ is SoJo’s big introduction to what she calls heartfelt pop: uplifting, energising and honest. As you can hear what it means to her from her impassioned vocal. Set to classic, don’t-bore-us-get-to-the-chorus pop, it’s the sound of breaking away from the heartache, rediscovering who you really are, and moving forwards with a new-found confidence. It also serves as a relatable, real-life story – if you’re sinking in a mid-life separation, ‘Arena For Love’ is a reminder that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
The inspiration for the song came at her lowest point. During the breakdown of her marriage, she immersed herself in self-development books as she tried to make sense of a future she hadn’t expected. Among them was Brené Brown’s ‘Daring Greatly’, where she encountered the famous ‘Man in the Arena’ passage from Theodore Roosevelt’s 1910 speech. The lesson was plain to see – you have to become the person who is brave enough to take a chance and step back into the arena.
SoJo says, “Heartbreak can make you want to put a massive ‘KEEP OUT’ sign around your heart. ‘Arena for Love’ is about not letting fear make your decisions, whether that’s being open to love again or going after anything else you want in life. The whole ‘arena’ idea has made me want to live more fearlessly and just go for things. Plus, it gave me a brilliant excuse to wear a gladiator costume!”
‘Arena For Love’ was written solely by SoJo and was produced by Kevin Thorpe. It also features guitar courtesy of Trevor Varri.
That songwriting course was the impetus for SoJo to change her life direction. She soon found that writing offered a way to channel her inner emotions, both the turmoil of the outside and the joy and liberation that followed. Her first single, ‘Keep Calm And Think About Peter Andre’, emerged in 2023, the phrase coming from a mug that her sister had given her. The rest of the singles that have followed have all been postcard chapters of her own personal story since, taking in ‘I’m On Fire’, ‘Hide’ and ‘Joy’. SoJo is now set to go deeper and uncompromisingly real into the full tale with the ‘Feeling Free’ album.
