Review By Darren McIntyre
Degreed are a melodic / hard rock band from Stockholm, Sweden, who originally formed in 2005. The boys have given us Life, Love, Loss in 2011; We Don’t Belong in 2013; Dead But Not Forgotten in 2015; Degreed in 2017; Lost Generation in 2019; Are You Ready in 2022; Public Address in 2023; Life, Love, Loss / We Don’t Belong Comp in 2017; & The Leftovers EP Vol 1 in 2025. On April 10th the boys unleash their blistering new album Curtain Calls, and from that comes the new single Holding On To Yesterday, which I will be reviewing for you today.
Holding On To Yesterday – The track kicks off with simple synth tones that welcome a thundering rhythm section that really lets this beast off the leash as the meaty bass kicks let the groove shatter the silence. The vocals are easing their way through the track as the double bass kicks let this bruiser roam free and unleash hell with its punchy beat; the dark, brooding bassline is dropping in and hitting us with a real meaty, dark, delicious groove that just wraps itself around this melodic teaser. The boys are digging deep and bringing a real crunchy beat that allows the tempo to break as the sizzling keys linger through the mid-section as a colossal guitar solo breaks free and works so well with the killer keys section. The foot-stomping tempo is fast and furious and hits us with bags of swagger and attitude as the boys bring us a well-crafted, punchy, melodic track that just wets our appetites for this upcoming album.
