Samantha Martin is a soul/blues/R&B/roots rock/gospel singer-songwriter from Edmonton, Ontario, Canada, who came to our attention in 2008 when she brought together The Delta Sugar. Samantha is a 2 x JUNO Award Nominee & 7 x Canadian Blues Award Nominee for Female Artist Of The Year. Samantha has given us Back Home in 2008; Samantha Martin & The Haggard – Mississippi Sun in 2014; Send The Nightingales in 2015; and Run To Me in 2018, and on the 22nd of May, she unleashes a new live album recorded during the band’s Love Is All Around Western Canada Tour in 2022. The band gave us the first single, My Crown, back in March, and they followed that with the fantastic new single, The Shape I’m In, which I will be reviewing for you today.

-soaked The Shape I’m in – we kick off with a fantastic brass section that gets the wheels in motion as the rhythm section gets the juices flowing with a cool, punchy beat that grabs our attention. Samantha brings her colossal, smouldering vocals that really let the track breathe as this toe-tapping blues extravaganza gets our attention. As the killer trombone lets the soul weave its way through this fantastic number, the band are just tight and in tune and really hit us with a killer blues explosion that gets us up on our feet to feel the energy flowing freely through this incredible track. The smooth Hammond-style keys are elevating the track somewhat as the groove grabs our attention and lets us dance along to this classy blues piece that just builds and builds as The Sugar brings us another incredible track that is just whetting our appetites for the release of the new live album. Hold onto your hats as we prepare for the impending eruption of a sweet, punchy, blues-soaked album that will just take your breath away.
