Thrash Metal
These Go To Eleven Records
Release Date – August 26th 2026
Thrashing out of Cincinnati, Ohio come Thorns with a new EP of classic old school thrash. Formed in 2022 they wasted no time and apparently decided to build their own studio. They knocked out two previous albums which brought ‘Kill ‘Em All’ and ‘Ride The Lightning’ era Metallica sounds. I will not disagree.
They don’t hang about on opener ‘Bad Business’ which rattles along at a steady pace and has some wicked axework and is driven along by the tight rhythm section. ‘Muzzle’ opens with a taught guitar which starts to chug under a fabulous vocal melody. It’s rough, raw and ready and goes through several movements and loads of riffs. ‘Headcase’ is wild and punchy then ‘Sickfit’ brings a whole load of nasty riffage, another pounding rhythm and some white-hot lead breaks.
For me this went too quickly. I want a full album please! Saying that I enjoyed it so much I played it continually. There’s nothing fancy about this release. It’s honest and raw but superbly executed with a great deal of controlled power. Excellent songs expertly played and a reminder of what Metallica used to be. Thorns are ready to be the band Metallica should have continued to be.
