Los Angeles riot grrrl/punk outfit Sour Tongue don’t just blur genre lines on their Final Girl EP—they smash straight through them with a grin, a snarl, and a whole lot of attitude. Across four tightly wound tracks, the band fuse hardcore punk, grunge, country twang and even flashes of disco into something that feels equal parts unhinged and utterly deliberate.

Opening with Disappointer, the tone is set early—jagged riffs, punchy rhythms, and vocals that swing between biting sarcasm and raw vulnerability. It’s messy in the best possible way, capturing that spiralling feeling of heartbreak and frustration. I Thought You Liked Me! follows like a frantic outburst, clocking in under two minutes but hitting like a full-force emotional collision—fast, furious, and laced with dark humour.

Me-Mania leans into the band’s more experimental side, blending swaggering grooves with a slightly off-kilter energy that keeps you guessing. There’s a chaotic charm here, a sense that anything could happen at any moment—and it probably will. Closing track Minus One brings things to a more reflective, yet still jagged finish, wrapping the EP’s narrative of grief, betrayal and love with a bruised but defiant bow.
What makes Final Girl stand out is its storytelling. Framed like a four-part horror-comedy, the EP dives into heavy emotional territory but never loses its sense of identity—or its bite. There’s angst, there’s desperation, but there’s also wit and self-awareness woven throughout.
