It’s been far too long since I’ve been back to The Musician in Leicester, probably over two years, but I was looking forward to seeing two bands that I know and enjoy.
As is often the case nowadays, attendance could have been better but the bands didn’t let this deter them and we had a great evening.

Blitz, hailing from Nottingham, is a powerhouse trio consisting of Stuart Corden on bass and lead vocals, Kevin Simpson on guitar, and Mat Davis on drums. They are currently in the process of writing and recording their fourth album, a testament to their relentless dedication and passion for music.
Their recent performance was nothing short of electrifying. As always, Blitz took to the stage with a no-nonsense attitude, diving straight into their set with “Damage is Done.” This high-energy opener set the tone for the night, immediately engaging the crowd and showcasing the band’s tight musicianship.

Following “Damage is Done,” Blitz kept the momentum going with a string of fan favorites. “Don’t Look Back” and “One in a Million” were delivered with precision and raw power, highlighting Stuart Corden’s commanding vocal presence and the band’s cohesive sound. “C.O.G.” and “Breakneck” continued to drive the energy levels higher, with Kevin Simpson’s guitar riffs slicing through the air and Mat Davis’s drumming providing a thunderous backbone.
The mid-set offerings of “Shell Shocked” and “Freddie Said” demonstrated Blitz’s ability to blend melody with aggression, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience. “Addicted to Corruption” was a standout, with its gritty lyrics and relentless tempo captivating the audience.

Blitz concluded their set with “I Believe,” a track that not only showcases their musical prowess but also their diverse influences. The song is a sonic journey, weaving elements from rock legends such as Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Kiss, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica. This final performance was a powerful reminder of why Blitz has remained a staple in the rock scene—they pay homage to the greats while carving out their own unique sound.
The complete set list for the night was as follows:
- Damage is Done
- Don’t Look Back
- One in a Million
- C.O.G.
- Breakneck
- Shell Shocked
- Freddie Said
- Addicted to Corruption
- I Believe
Blitz’s ability to deliver a high-octane performance from start to finish is a testament to their skill and experience. Each member brought their A-game, resulting in a show that was both memorable and exhilarating. Fans left the venue buzzing with excitement, eagerly anticipating the release of the band’s forthcoming album. If this performance is any indication, Blitz’s new material will be well worth the wait.

Describing the Pistoleros is no simple task. Their official description as “flamenco punk glam” comes close but doesn’t fully capture their unique sound. Imagine a blend of the Ramones’ raw energy, the sleazy edge of glam rock, and a dash of heavy rock intensity, all sprinkled with flamenco influences. This fusion creates a distinct and unforgettable musical experience.
Tonight’s set was a showcase of their original material, with one notable exception: their spirited rendition of “Come on Eileen,” originally performed by Dexy’s Midnight Runners. This cover has been a fan favorite since its release as a single and remains a crowd-pleaser at their live shows.

Having last seen the band at Reading in March 2022, it was exciting to witness how the new lineup has evolved. The chemistry between the members was palpable, and their performance was tighter and more cohesive than ever. Each song was delivered with passion and precision, reflecting the hard work they’ve put into refining their act.
Opening with “Duende a Go Go Loco,” the Pistoleros immediately set a lively and energetic tone. “Livin’ The Vida Loca” and “Close” followed, maintaining the high-energy atmosphere. “What It’s Like to be a Girl” and “I Got It All” showcased their ability to blend punk attitude with melodic hooks.

Mid-set highlights included the introspective “Maybe Tomorrow” and the cheeky “I’m in Love with Myself,” both of which demonstrated their range in songwriting. “Revolution” and “Una Para Toda Es Bandido” brought a heavier, more rebellious vibe to the set, while “Like Tears in the Rain” and “The Ballad of Tommy Shelby” added a dramatic flair.

As they moved towards the end of their set, the Pistoleros performed “Wild,” a track that perfectly encapsulates their wild and free-spirited essence. They closed with the ever-popular “Come on Eileen,” leaving the audience buzzing with excitement and clamoring for more.
