REVIEW AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAMIEN HARVEY
Stone Broken kicked off their three-date tour with an electrifying performance at Chinnerys in Southend on the 19th of July, 2024. The tour, which includes stops in Dover and Southampton, promised an unforgettable experience for fans, and the opening night did not disappoint.
From the moment the band took the stage, their energy was palpable. Frontman Rich Moss led the charge with his commanding presence and powerful vocals, while drummer Robyn Haycock was a dynamo behind the kit, delivering relentless rhythms that kept the crowd moving. Her performance was a standout, despite a minor hiccup early in the set when she couldn’t hear her headpiece and started the song incorrectly. The band took it in stride, with Rich Moss humorously addressing the audience and saying they were going to go off and come back on like nothing had happened. The crowd loved the candid moment, and it only heightened the sense of camaraderie between the band and their fans.
The setlist was a mix of fan favorites and new material, with the band debuting their latest single, “Remedy,” which had been released earlier that day. The crowd’s excitement was evident as they cheered and sang along to every word.
The night wasn’t without technical difficulties, however. After finishing the first song, the band encountered another issue and had to reset the laptop that controlled everything from the lights to Rich’s guitar amp. Ever the professional, Rich Moss used the time to engage with the crowd, turning the delay into an opportunity for some light-hearted banter and making everyone feel like part of the show.
Once the technical issues were resolved, Stone Broken continued to deliver a high-energy, vocally impressive set that had everyone in the venue dripping with sweat by the end of the night. Despite the heat, both from the performance and the warm summer night on the coast, the band’s enthusiasm never waned, and neither did the crowd’s.
Stone Broken’s performance at Chinnerys was a testament to their resilience and dedication to their fans. It was a memorable start to their tour, setting a high bar for the shows to come in Dover and Southampton. If the Southend gig is any indication, fans in those cities are in for an unforgettable experience, hopefully without the technical issues.
