Smash Into Pieces truly brought the heat at the Camden Electric Ballroom on the 2nd of December, delivering a jaw-dropping performance that had the crowd rocking from start to finish. The band’s high-energy performance, infused with their signature blend of heavy metal and electronic influences, showcased their mastery of the genre. The electrifying setlist, paired with an unforgettable stage production, made for a night to remember.
The staging was nothing short of spectacular. The high-rise stage design allowed drummer APOC to be front and center, his powerful beats resonating throughout the venue, enhanced by an impressive array of LED screens and dazzling lasers that punctuated every song. The visuals played a massive role in the experience, making the atmosphere feel larger than life.
Guitarists Benjamin Jennebo and Per Bergquist were absolute showmen throughout the night. From their effortless guitar flips to the infectious energy they brought to the stage, it was clear these two know how to work a crowd. Their chemistry was undeniable, feeding off each other’s energy and engaging the audience in a way that made every riff feel personal. It’s not every day you see a band that can balance intricate musicianship with such charismatic performance, and these two guitarists nailed it.
As for frontman Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye, his performance marked a noticeable improvement from my previous review. Last year, I mentioned that he had a tendency to be a bit stale on stage, not moving around much. This time, however, Chris seemed more alive than ever, jumping and moving around the stage with greater enthusiasm. While he may not be the “high-energy” type of frontman that leaps all over the place, his presence was undeniable. He gave the crowd exactly what they wanted, delivering powerful vocals and connecting with the audience in a way that felt genuine.
The setlist was a masterclass in balancing the old with the new, kicking off with the explosive “Hurricane” and continuing through hits like “Glow in the Dark,” “Venom,” and “Let Me Be Your Superhero.” “Boomerang,” with Linda Battilani of Halflives, was a standout moment, bringing a new dynamic to the show with her powerful vocals. The crowd was treated to a powerful encore of “Flow” and “Six Feet Under,” capping off the night with a massive surge of energy.
A special mention should go to APOC’s drum solo – not one, but two impressive performances that had the crowd screaming in appreciation. His rhythm and precision were a highlight of the night, further elevating the band’s incredible performance.
Overall, Smash Into Pieces once again proved why they are a force to be reckoned with in the rock and electronic scene. With their impressive musicianship, charismatic performance, and the incredible stage production, they truly took Camden Electric Ballroom by storm. This was a night that will surely stay with fans for a long time.
