Part One ….. Mr Richard Dunning on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive I write to advise you that tonight’s gig featuring these two bands of Renegade Rock ‘n’ Rollers should have carried a health warning. It was sheer unadulterated loud and proud rock in all its varied glory. On second thoughts Mr Dunning forget that nonsense because that is the way I like it and judging from the reaction the 2 bands received from a full house, everyone felt the same.

Tonight was the opening night of an 8 night tour and it got off to a storming start and the bands are going to provide massive thrills across the country. It is a double header so billing and set times were shared. Remember the Extreme classic hit Get The Funk Out, well that is what Matt Pearce And The Mutiny delivered tonight, a cauldron of vibrant sounds from 6 Uber confident musicians.

The band flicked the switch and piled into a 4 shot salvo, funky deep grooves, flowing keys, full on Saxophone and aggressive driving lead breaks from Matt under his soul riven vocal. It was 5 songs in before Matt and the band eased back on the throttles as the rhythm section laid down a stretched groove, dextrous keys flowing, pawing Saxophone all weaving together alongside lovely vocal harmonies from Matt and Daliah Sherrington. From Here To The Moon and King Of The World sum up this band’s DNA, furious syncopated funk.

Dirty hooked up and funked up repeating riffs, scorching slide all flooded under Matt’s surging vocals. Drift Away was the one cover in the set and had a sumptuous opening as haunting Sax tones rested beside Dalia’s soulful vocal before the band eased in and collectively floored the accelerator with Matt stomping on the Wah Wah pedal. The final song of a superb set featured band intros before Matt broke the groove and sent out rabid clipped riffs that were automatically recognised as a segue of Fleetwood Mac’s Oh Well. The standing ovation was richly deserved. Part two with Jack Hutchinson and his Band to follow.
