By Justin Smulison
It’s always fun time when Robert Majd stops by Jace Media to discuss his musical voyages. This time, the bassist/guitarist/songwriter is piloting Captain Black Beard’s newest album, Chasing Danger, available everywhere from Mighty Music and Target Group DK.
Anyone in search of fun, melodic rock (with a dash of metal) should be heavy into Robert Majd. Captain Black Beard capture the freeing spirit of 1980s AOR with extra groovy flourishes that will get any listener or concertgoer to get out of their seat.
Chasing Danger marks a pivotal moment in the band’s history, underscored by lineup changes that shift the group from quintet to quartet and place new singer Fredrik Vahlgren squarely at the center. Vahlgren’s register is higher than his predecessor’s in many tracks, amping up the tempo and the decibel level.
Robert and I talk about Captain Black Beard’s new singles and the upcoming album release shows in Sweden.
We also talk about the excitement for the rest of 2025, as Nighthawk prepares its next album, with the Night Flight Orchestra’s Bjorn Strid returning to the mic. And we look back on Metalite’s Expedition One and their tour with NFO. And as if that was not enough, we also talk about Weapon, the classic metal band fronted by Danny Hynes. Robert produces and writes for Weapon and teases the follow-up to 2023’s New Clear Power.
AND we stroll down memory lane to the time Hynes, Majd, Mrs. Smulison and I dined in NYC in December 2023.
You can also check out Majd’s appearance to discuss Nighthawk in Fall 2024.
