By Justin Smulison
I became aware of Søren Andersen over 10 years ago when I stumbled upon Artillery’s comeback albums, When Death Comes, and My Blood. These two albums changed the way I heard and felt metal as an adult. I noticed Andersen was credited as the producer on both of those masterpieces (and each Artillery studio album since then) and followed the Denmark native’s career ever since.

I was blown away by his guitar work as well, particularly when I heard Guilty Pleasures, his instrumental album that features a variety of styles and genres, as well as players such as drumming heavyweight Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), bassist Ida Nielsen (Prince) and Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), the latter of whom Andersen produces and tours with on guitar.
Released by Mighty Music, Andersen’s new album, Live In The Homeland, captures all the ear candy from Guilty Pleasures on stage as part of a trio. Recorded in 2021, it’s part shred-fest, part-melodic guitar symphony and all-energy, and features Grammy award-winner Michael Gersdorff on bass and powerhouse Allan Tschicaja from Pretty Maids behind the drums. If you love the work of Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen, this is the next level of your guitar fandom.
In this interview, we’ll get a brief glimpse of his touring schedule but mostly talk all about his solo work and musical philosophies, his collaborations with Artillery and on Electric Guitars, as well as his contributions to songs and production for Thundermother and his cameo on a Freddy and the Phantoms tune.
