Review By Darren McIntyre Images By Scott Anderson

SatchVai Band is the coming together of guitar greats Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, uniting nearly 50 years of musical brilliance into one electrifying experience. Satriani once served as Vai’s guitar tech during their teenage years on Long Island, New York—but fast forward to today, and both are world-renowned guitar virtuosos in their own right. Despite their individual successes, they’ve remained connected through the years via various projects including G3, BEAT, and Chickenfoot.

Joe has delivered 18 studio albums, while Steve has released 12 of his own. But tonight, they join forces with an all-star lineup to shake the rafters of The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on their Surfing With The Hydra tour, which has already wowed audiences in York and London.

Prepare yourself to be transported to another dimension as these two powerhouse guitarists unleash a storm of riffs and mind-bending licks that are guaranteed to blow your mind.

The stage is set with a simple layout. As the house lights dim and the intro music begins, the venue pulses with anticipation. The stage comes alive as Messrs Satriani, Vai, Thorn, Mendoza, and Aronoff make their entrance—and the band launches straight into—

“I Wanna Play My Guitar” (originally recorded with Glenn Hughes) – Joe and Steve step front and centre as the pounding rhythm pours from the back of the stage, and this groover lifts off the ground. Marco leans in with his funky bassline and delivers bluesy, rock-star vocals that hit us square in the face, as the boys unleash a true sonic assault of exquisite guitar playing that sets The Concert Hall ablaze tonight.

The thunderous sound of snare and bass drums adds depth, attitude, and plenty of punch to this colossal track, making it clear the band isn’t here to mess around. There are some technical issues during the opening number, but they don’t take away from the epic journey we’re on, right here in the heart of Glasgow.

The vocals are strong and carry the track confidently as it glides through this stunning venue. Take a bow, Marco, for stepping up and filling the shoes of the one and only Mr. Glenn Hughes.
