Review By Darren McIntyre
Sweet Savage are a heavy metal band from Belfast, Northern Ireland who originally formed in 1979, the band can boast Vivian Campbell & Simon McBride amongst it’s past members. Sweet Savage were considered one of the pioneers of The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement alongside acts like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head & Def Leppard, in the early days the boys supported the likes of Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, Motorhead & the late Ozzy Osbourne. The boys took a year out in 1983, reformed in 1984 but disbanded in 1985, the boys are back and have given us new music for the first time in 14 years and drop killer new single The Chosen One from their soon to be released new album Bang slated for release September 14th, please join me as I prepare us for an onslaught of metal from the boys from Belfast.
The Chosen One – A cool haunting opening gets this rasping beast off the ground as a pounding snare drum beat lets the rhythm section command the track as the searing vocals bring the track to life. The cool, dark bassline provides the perfect groove for this crunching beast as the boys really hit the ground running with their killer galloping riffs as the pounding snare drum gets us all hot under the collar as the boys ramp up the heat with this epic arrangement that is just kicking in the doors and letting us know they are back and back with a bang. The scorching solo punches us straight in the face as this foot stomping monster builds and builds with killer riffs, killer lyrics and a cool double bass kick that just elevates the track to another level as we feel the energy pulsing through the track, the swagger is apparent as the boys just deliver a no nonsense killer track that just gives it to us straight.
