Review By Darren McIntyre
Dream Theatre are a progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts, who originally went under the name Majesty and who formed in 1985. Petrucci, Myung & Portnoy, all Long Island natives, attended Berklee College of Music but later dropped out to concentrate on the band. Like most bands, they have gone through some changes in personnel but have always kept the music the main focus. The boys have given us 16 studio albums and have 6 Gold or Platinum certifications to their name. The boys bring us their epic new single Night Terror from their soon-to-be-released Quarantieme – Live In Paris. I will be reviewing the latest single for you, so please settle in and grab a cold one as I take us through this colossal live offering.
breathe. Night Terror – The visuals begin as a haunting keys tone weaves it’s way through the opening as a shredding guitar riff eases into this foot stomping monster. The rhythm section sees Mike drive the track forward with a solid snare drum beat that brings in double bass kicks that just deliver a real crunching beat to this epic live rendition, the arrangement opens with a furious, blistering drum groove that is woven into the fabric of this incredible band. James leans in and lets his soaring, melodic vocals lead the charge in this fist pumping rocker as we feel the energy oozing from each musician, the boys are giving us a real treat with this killer live version that lets the boys be themselves and brings us on the journey with them. The tempo changes pace several times through the piece as it takes us one way then the next as the mellow keys leave their mark on this gritty rocker track. The energy flowing through the track just puts a smile on your face as the band really digs deep and gives us a colossal musical experience that just keeps building and building as the groove wraps itself around this killer tone. The musicality is just grabbing our attention as the beat takes us along for the ride as Mike goes through the gears and hits us with a real solid, punchy beat that allows the track to breath. The slick, crisp, energetic solo is just letting us immerse ourselves in this sonic journey that just ticks all the boxes
