Kezia Gill – If Heaven Has A Honkytonk Single Review

Kezia Gill is a Midlands-based Nottinghamshire-born singer/songwriter who has been performing professionally for over 15 years. Her early years were spent surrounded by music; her father, a professional musician for over 50 years & her single biggest influence, had introduced her to a world of performing, writing & most importantly the vast back catalogue that has shaped her individual style. Kezia has performed all over the UK, Europe, Australia & America and has seen her pick up accolades like Female Vocalist Of The Year, Best Female Artist & Soloist Of The Year, and 2021 saw her take home Best Album, Best Song & Best Entertainer. Kezia has been busy writing and recording, and on the 23rd January she delivers ‘the best album I have written’, according to Kezia All On Red. Kezia has given us Dublin’s Outta Whisky and follows that with her new offering, If Heaven Has A Honkytonk, which I will be reviewing for you.

If Heaven Has A Honkytonk – The track kicks off with a real gritty, bluesy guitar riff that brings a solid snare drum beat that lets this foot-stomping bruiser come to life. Kezia lets her rasping, blues-soaked vocals lead the charge in this classy country-filled arrangement as the rhythm section leans in and lets the toe-tapping groove weave its way through this fantastic new offering. The addition of the soulful, bluesy Hammond-style keys really elevates this cool bluesy track to another level; the dark, funky bassline drops in with a mellow groove that fits the arrangement perfectly. It is like walking into a country blues club and hearing this fantastic beat ooze from the stage, and then you hear the colossal vocals take the track onwards. Kezia is really upping her game with this thigh-slapping groover, as we feel the energy, depth and country swagger flow from this awesome new track.
