Review By Smudge Smith
Sanity’s Rage hail from unpronounceable areas of Belgium and were formed in 2006. They have pushed out an EP, a full-length, and some singles before this, their sophomore effort. They appear to be fairly well regarded in Belgium, Holland, and Germany, having shared stages with the likes of Agent Steel, Gama Bomb, and Holy Moses. Onslaught, Saxon, and Testament.

They lull you into a false sense of security with a gentle instrumental ‘Only Madness Remains’ before they block change to furious thrash mode on ‘Measure Of Guilt’ and ‘When The Sharp Things Come’. They give us a slow build on ‘Sanity’s Rage’ before they grind out a chugging riff, drummer Sam Stoelzaet ups the tempo, and singer Kenny Molly barks the lyrics like a manic sergeant major. Shit gets properly real on the brutal ‘Blood Calls For Blood’. These guys aren’t messing about, so steer clear of the pit unless you want to get hurt! Tribal rhythms introduce ‘Nothing Sacred Will Hold’. Keep a tight hold on to your hats when this thing gets going because it isn’t stopping without causing some serious damage. That brutality continues on the title track, and then they ease back on ‘The Final Exhibition Of Pain’, which is dark and evil. ‘Re-educate The Masses’ kicks it up a notch on a tidy groove, and then we get the epic to close—‘Sanity Lies In Ruin’ with shimmering guitars and some melodic lines to start—singer Kenny Molly brings it down on his gruff voice, and then the power chords come crashing in as he growls over the top. It’s not a ballad—maybe a heavy lament instead.
I love thrash, and this got me going. It has all the hallmarks of great thrash—energy and aggression, razor-sharp guitars, and pummeling rhythms. What’s not to like? Come and get it if you think you can handle it!
