“Bad Actress swallows up the Dreadnought.”
Review By Gary and Callum Roebuck
Playing out tunes tonight from the current EP “Good Times”, high-kicking, head-banging brothers Chic and Lui with an outrageous instrumental mid-song get the tight-knit 4-piece from Northern Scotland going, and “Outta My Head” is quite an opener on the back of “Those Made Broken” opening the night.
Are you ready to rock Bathgate? “Rocking with You” bandana-wearing frontman Lui had the audience going and we were only 2 anthems in.

“Feel my Pain”, the latest single released in late summer, with Chic shredding the cords to some degree again, with all the boys joining the chorus Ewan on drums, Shaun on bass, and Chic—we got the first audience clapping of the night. What a right combo! Thank you very much.
“Don’t Look Down” starts solely with Lui on vocals before the guys kick in. Literally, what a transformation in the band with the energy being exuded from Lui! What an energy and transformation from drumming, which rubs off on the other 2 at the front with cracking backing vocals throughout.

“Alive” starts with quite an intro—shrieking vocals and a throbbing rhythm. You can see the guys enjoying tonight’s mid-set, with Lui stepping back to let Chic and Shaun deliver before the audience claps back appreciation as the headbanging brothers again deliver, with an awesome drum from Ewan being the highlight of the night up to now.
“Hellbound”—how can you not foot tap to this? What a tune taking you hellbound. The mid-song instrumentals have been dynamite throughout this set, and this was no exception. No let-up—what a set this has been. As the headbanging and high kicking continue, the audience has enjoyed up to now what a solo on drums by Ewan to end the song.

“Hot Stuff” Lui took his jacket off, opened his shirt, and danced with the mic. Brotherly love was mid-song with Chic as the “Dreadnought” screamed as the energy on stage exploded to another level. Hot stuff had certainly been delivered.
As the crowds’ favorites continued, Ewan on drums “Living in Paradise”, and the guys delivered another epic Lui has been making the vocals his own since dropping the sticks. What a boy! As we got more headbanging from the audience, throbbing drums delivered an awesome rhythm with support from Shaun on bass

“Good Times” released in May this year as a single and from the self-titled ep recently released just last month we certainly have had as the penultimate tune before “Victory or Die” close the “Bathvegas” “Dreadnought Bathgate” Christmas jamboree It’s a joy to see the camaraderie between all 4 tonight. We’ve had good times tonight. As the audience was asked, “Where did the good times go?” I’ll tell you: onto Bathgate Main Street and beyond.
“Dynamite Lover” is as fresh a tune as the first time I heard it in “Audio”. Glasgow nearly 2 years ago closes this 80s-esque set, and what can you say about a band that looks and plays as if the 80s have been fast-forwarded in a time capsule?
If one band sets the “Scottish heather” on fire next year, I believe these guys will be it—energetic frontman Lui with the swagger and confidence of a David Lee Roth or Jon Bon—you get the idea.
Chic on guitar a fine guitar shredder from the back catalogue of Stevie Vai, Joe Perry and the newbies Ewan on drums, Shaun on bass I’ll let these 2 bed in before I customise them.
Guys, thanks for blessing me with this review, and I look forward to supporting you in the new year.
To all the “bad actresses” out there, I wish you all “good times” and “don’t look down.”
Be positive, feel strong, and speak out.
Until the next time—Adios, Gazza ✌️ and 💕.
