Slyder Smith – Killing The Machine – Single Review – bjfmedia

Review By Darren McIntyre

Slyder Smith is a singer/songwriter originally from Somerset, England, but now resides in rural Scotland and is best known as the frontman for The Last Great Dreamers. He went on to form Slyder Smith & The Oblivion Kids and has had successful tours with the likes of The Quireboys, Enuff Z’ Nuff, The Wildhearts, The Alarm, The Boys & Wolfsbane; since relocating to Scotland, he has had a number of support slots for Electric Boys & Cherie Currie. He has been locked away writing and recording and has written a batch of songs to be released in the coming months with an album to follow in 2026. Slyder and the boys brought us singles Nobody’s Listening & Plan To Fail, but as a 3-piece, today he ups the ante and blossoms into a 4-piece, and today they bring us their blistering new single Killing The Machine, which I will be reviewing for you today. Please sit back and prepare yourself to be taken on a journey with Slyder & The Boys.

Killing The Machine – We get a nice spoken lyric rippling through the intro as the track erupts into life with a crunching, meaty guitar lick that really gets the juices flowing as the boys hit the ground running. The rhythm section is bringing us a solid snare/bass combo that lets the groove weave its way through this foot-stomping rock ‘n’ roller. The full-on, dark, delicious bassline drops in and gives us a cool, mellow beat that lets the track breathe as we let Slyder offload with his rasping, gritty vocals that really give the track depth, swagger and a real ballsy groove. The boys are bringing the heat with this fist-pumping bruiser that sees them elevate their sound more with a cool, punchy beat that grabs our attention as it wanders freely through the arrangement and brings a whole new beat to this awesome musician.
