LOST VELVET – ‘2003’: A Haunting Trip Through The Shadows

There is something wonderfully unsettling about ‘2003’, the latest single from Reading alternative rock duo LOST VELVET. Rather than rushing straight for the jugular, the duo take their time, building a dark, atmospheric world where distorted guitars, hazy textures and industrial undertones collide.

‘2003’ feels like a soundtrack to a forgotten late-night film, constantly shifting between moments of restraint and heavier passages that arrive with genuine impact. The production gives the track plenty of space to breathe, while the intertwined vocals add another layer of mystery to an already intriguing sound.

What makes LOST VELVET particularly interesting is their ability to balance heaviness with atmosphere. There are echoes of shoegaze and post-rock throughout, but the industrial edge prevents the track from becoming predictable. Instead, ‘2003’ develops its own identity, sounding both nostalgic and strangely futuristic.

Mixed by Michael Patterson, whose impressive credits include Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross and Puscifer, the single possesses a polished yet suitably murky character that perfectly complements the band’s vision.

With their debut album, Dark Cells, arriving on 4 September, LOST VELVET have certainly created curiosity. ‘2003’ is an absorbing, cinematic introduction to a duo clearly unafraid to explore the darker corners of alternative rock.
