Continental Lovers—Double Hit of Punk Nostalgia

Single—Screwing Your Life Up

Single – Bad Little Go-Go Girl

Release Date: 15th December 25

Review by Linda McDermott

Continental Lovers are gearing up for a great finish to the year, returning with not one but two brand-new singles; consider them a double A-side (remember them?), as they both drop on the same day. The UK-based, hook-heavy punk outfit have always thrived on raw energy, big riffs, and a no-nonsense attitude, and this latest double release shows them firmly reconnecting with the sound that first set their name buzzing in the underground scene. Their new tracks, ‘Screwing Your Life Up’ and ‘Bad Little Go-Go Girl’, come bursting out of the gates as fast-paced, distorted nuggets packed with bite, swagger, and that wonderfully unpolished edge that long-time fans will immediately latch onto.

Continental Lovers are:

Ben Webster: Lead guitar and backing vocals

Kerri Kaysen: Bass guitar and backing vocals

Ace Carlton: Drums and backing vocals

spirit. As someone whose taste leans deep into the era of the Ramones and Continental Lovers, their upbeat, boppy punk flair is a band I’ve gravitated towards. They tap into that same timeless spirit that’s fun, rough-around-the-edges, and absolutely built for blasting loud. Their self-titled album, released last year, has become something of a personal go-to for me; whenever I need a bit of happy music or something to pick up the mood, it’s one of the first albums I reach for. These two new tracks carry that same infectious charm and only reinforce why the band made such an impression on me in the first place.

Joe (lead vocals/guitar) says, “Our last single (Connection) was super slick and polished. This time out, I wanted us to recapture the sound of our first EP, so we went in the studio and recorded the basic tracks live, with us all in the same room, and kept the overdubs to a minimum. I’m very happy with the results, and I hope our fans love the new songs as much as we do.”

That decision to strip everything back and record live gives the tracks a spark. The songs have that kind of immediacy that defined early punk records, and the Continental Lovers have honed it to perfection.

Digging deeper into the songs themselves, Joe added, “Screwing Your Life Up is a riff I borrowed from another song that I just couldn’t finish. It’s a song about the pull of addiction, which is quite a heavy subject matter for us.” There’s a brilliant fuzzy edge to the track that instantly drags you back to those early punk days, all fast-paced grit

and no-nonsense attitude. It’s got that boppy bounce that bands like the Ramones made their own, giving it a proper throwback charm without feeling dated. The beat hurtles along while the vocals come through with a touch of distortion, rough enough to keep things raw but still clear enough to hook you in.

Meanwhile, their second track sparked from a shared musical thread between bandmates that has Joe explaining, “Bad Little Go-Go Girl comes from a musical idea Ben had. He came up with the music, and I tweaked the chorus and bridge a bit. Then I wrote some words that I really wanted to get stuck in your head, hence the call and response chorus. It has a key shift in it towards the end of the song that gives it a bit of power!”

The second track carries that same slightly distorted punk edge, but there’s something about this one that hits even harder. If I had to choose between the two, and I don’t, this would be my pick. It keeps that fast-paced beat driving everything forward, but it’s the way the song leads in, paired with the harmonies, that really seals it. There’s an instant spark to it, the sort that gets your foot tapping and your head nodding before you’ve even realised it.

It’s been a strong year for Continental Lovers, who’ve completed headline tours across Spain and the UK, as well as appearing at festivals such as Rebellion and Call of the Wild. With a return to the studio in January and more European dates already lined up for 2026, the band clearly isn’t slowing down. And if these new tracks are anything to go by, they’re heading into the next chapter with the same upbeat, Ramones-tinged spirit that makes their music such a joy to stick on whenever the world needs brightening up.

They are out on tour in Europe before Christmas.
