Eric Gales also known as Raw Dawg is a singer / guitarist from Memphis, Tennessee who was originally hailed as a child prodigy, Eric picked up the guitar at age 4, his older siblings Eugene & Manuel( Little Jimmy King) taught him songs & licks when he was young in the style of Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, BB King & others, 1990 sees Eric sign with Elektra Records and together with drummer Hubert Crawford released records The Eric Gales Band & Picture Of A Thousand Faces, Eric has released 20 studio albums & on the 24th October Eric drops his new record A Tribute To LJK, from that comes lead single You Shouldn’t Have Left Me which I will be reviewing for you today.
You Shouldn’t Have Left Me – From the off we get a sizzling, swaying guitar lick that is accompanied by a killer brass section that really gives this track a cool, raw, edge groove. The punchy rhythm section is giving us a solid snare drum beat that works so well with a full on bassline that is hitting us with colossal, dark, delicious grooves that just wrap themselves around this epic arrangement, the gravelly, soulful vocals are just elevating this toe tapping blues explosion as Eric rips up the playbook and brings us a guitar assault that just grabs our attention, this is something special as the groove just hits you like a juggernaut rolling through and has no intention of stopping. The slick, clean guitar work is just astounding as we feel the energy, swagger and depth flow effortlessly through this incredible arrangement, this just allows us to float away and be transported to somewhere new as Eric really gives it to us straight. The left handed maestro is firing on all cylinders and is leaving us to put out the fires that he is leaving behind.
