Review By Darren McIntyre
Coming Up Roses are an Indie / Punk / Shoegaze rock quartet from London who are fronted by Emily Sera who relocated from Singapore in late 2022. Combining guitar driven alt – rock with catchy melodies, the band takes inspiration from the vibrant sounds of the burgeoning South East Asian Indie scene. Confronting the uncomfortable to find comfort they present multi – culturally informed songs that detail universal themes such as loss, struggles with mental health and aspirations, the band have given us EP’s Waters in 2019, Everything Is in 2021 & Coming Up Roses in 2024, 2025 sees the long awaited debut album How Did We Fall So Far due to drop in 2025, to wet our appetitesthey give us new single Gotta Lose It All which I will be reviewing for you today.
Gotta Lose It All – A cool melodic intro sweeps through the track as we feel at ease with this cool arrangement that lets Emily bring her haunting, soulful vocals that just let this track breathe. The rhythm section brings a punchy bass kick that allows the snare drum groove to take the track onwards as we just enjoy the cool beat, the full on bassline drops in and lets the funk element breeze through the mid section as this toe tapping mellow number wraps itself around us and let us. The tempo is a real mellow affair as we are taken one way then the next as the sweet, melodic guitar riffs are bringing the groove to this killer track that gathers pace and gives us a real sense that this young outfit will be ones to watch out for.
