Review By Darren McIntyre
Staci Gruber is a Boston-based singer/songwriter whose exceptional musical talents, storied songwriting and emotional depth resonate deeply with her listeners. Music has been an intrinsic part of her life from an early age; what began as a shy, introspective passion – singing privately in her closet – quickly blossomed into a powerful voice. Throughout her childhood Staci spent summers at the French Woods Festival of Performing Arts. Staci’s journey took an ambitious turn when she transitioned from classical to jazz and gained a pioneering 5-year dual degree programme at Tufts University & The New England Conservatory of Music. Staci unleashes her her Rock-meets-Americana anthem This Time Around, which I will be reviewing for you today.
This Time Around – A real punchy Americana-rock groove opens the track as banjo and lap steel sounds flow from the intro as Staci lets her infectious, melodic vocals lead the way in this classy outing. The rhythm section comes at us with a cool snare/bass kick that controls the direction of this cool number; the Hammond-style keys that are littered throughout the track really make the track pop as we tap our toes and slap our thighs to this funky, melodic number that has a cool, meaty bassline that wraps itself around the crunching groove as it takes us on the journey with Staci as she lets us feel the emotion oozing from the highly personal lyrics that are weaving their way through this kickass, foot-stomping, hoedown arrangement that really oozes quality; it will have you reaching for the repeat button for sure.
